4 Reasons To Have A Beach Wedding In Winter

Tips + Advice // by Chloe Bassett

Why should summer only be reserved for a beach wedding? In winter there’s less competition for guests’ schedules and venues – not to mention the breathtaking scenery. A beach wedding in winter has plenty of benefits, so why not make ‘off season’, your season?

Here are four reasons that’ll have you dreaming of a beach wedding in Queensland’s cooler months.

1. THE SUB-TROPICAL CLIMATE WORKS IN YOUR FAVOUR

While a beach wedding in summer may seem like an inspired idea when planning your big day, it can be a logistical disaster. The extremities of Queensland’s weather may leave some guests uncomfortable in the summer heat.

A beach wedding in winter provides lovely crisp weather (hello, 21 degrees!) without having to sacrifice a ceremony by the water. It’s also a little local secret that winter is the state’s driest season, so afternoon thunderstorms are at a minimum. In the small chance that it does rain, there are spectacular wet weather options readily available.

Event Manager of Ocean View Events, Karen Hanly, says their indoor ceremony space still promises panoramic beach views. “I’m still yet to have a bride who’s disappointed with our premier venue overlooking the beach.”

2. YOU COULD SCORE A GREAT DISCOUNT

Winter is ‘off-peak’ in the wedding industry. So why not take advantage of it?

Because the season isn’t overly busy, wedding vendors are more likely to provide great discounts or packages.

3. THE BEAUTIFUL SCENERY CREATES MAGICAL WEDDING PHOTOS

The occasional westerly winds in the winter months create some of the most beautiful sunsets – the perfect backdrop for wedding photos!

Kylie Stanley of KM Studios is a preferred vendor of Ocean View Events and says she loves to photograph beach weddings in winter. “The sunsets are actually better during the winter season as the light is warm and inviting. The cooler temperature is great for posing barefoot in the sand and there’s less people on the beach.”

Picture you and your beau on an empty beach… pure bliss. The added bonus? The sun sets earlier so you can celebrate with your guests sooner.

4. ACCOMMODATION IS MORE AFFORDABLE

Opting for a beach wedding in winter means you can avoid the accommodation price hike in peak season. If your schedule allows it, make a weekend of your coastal celebration and enjoy it with your loved ones.

Organise a few fun-filled activities or invite your guests out to a pre-celebratory dinner to kickstart the festivities.
