10 things for your wedding guests to see, do and taste on the Gold Coast

  |

Let’s face it- whether your guests are from abroad, another state or even somewhere nearby in Queensland, a wedding on the Gold Coast is always a great excuse for a mini holiday. The surf-and-sunshine hotspot has an almost endless list of attractions, so be sure to incorporate a little free time in your wedding schedule. To make planning just that little bit easier, we’ve found 10 fantastic things for your guests to see, do and taste…

HOT-AIR BALLOONING

Your guests will love taking to the skies on a hot-air balloon ride and discovering the sights while sipping Champagne (what else?). From the shimmering waters to the lush hinterland, the Gold Coast is abundant with natural beauty, making it the perfect place to go up, up and away. Take to the skies with Hot Air and your guests will also be treated to a gourmet Champagne breakfast at the world-famous O’Reilly’s Vineyard Grand Homestead, and a wine-tasting session at Canungra Valley Vineyard. It’s an early start for an experience like this, but totally worth it.

GO ON A BREWERY TOUR

This one’s for the beer lover. Located in the trendy region of Burleigh, the much-loved Burleigh Brewing Co runs tours and special tastings from Wednesdays to Sundays. Hosting food trucks and live musicians on Friday evenings, the brewery is a great place for a chilled Friday night before the big day, surrounded by friends. Sure to be a hit with your groomsmen – or brew-loving bridesmaids– Burleigh Brewing Co is the place to sample a glass of something fresh and cold, straight from the source.

BREAKFAST BY THE BEACH

If your guests are no strangers to an early morning walk, Cafe DBar is the perfect breakfast spot. They’ll love watching the sunrise on the breathtaking Point Danger coastline when they climb to the top and enjoy a well-earned breakfast. Serving breakfast classics, modern delicacies and quality coffee, and with a tagline “Art + Food + Views”, Cafe DBar is a popular haunt with locals. Also worth a visit is the sweetly named Little Mermaid in Mermaid Beach. With its breezy tropical decor and delicious fare, the newly opened venue screams Gold Coast, while hip cafe Feather and Docks in Palm Beach serves arguably the best coffee on the Coast.

FIND THE ULTIMATE SELFIE SPOT

The Gold Coast is a selfie heaven, rich with picturesque destinations that will make followers say “I wish I was there”. For guests looking for the perfect holiday selfie spot, look no further than Killarney Glen. A 45-minute drive from the Gold Coast city centre, the natural heart-shaped pool is almost too beautiful to believe, surrounded by bushland and waterfalls. If the beach and cityscapes are more your guests’ style, point them towards Skypoint Observation Deck in Surfers Paradise. With panoramic views of the ocean and skyscrapers, the 77th floor provides amazing backdrops for holiday selfies.

CATCH A WAVE

The Gold Coast and surfing go hand in hand. Known for having the best waves in Australia, the Snapper Rocks Superbank will really impress your surf-crazy guests and comes with a personal recommendation from world champ Mick Fanning – you can’t beat that. Also a hit with local surfers, Burleigh Heads is known for its large waves and amazing scenery.

GO ON A SEAFOOD PICNIC

It’s hard not to get a strong craving for seafood when you visit the Gold Coast. For a very special outing, your guests should do as the locals do and pick up some fresh seafood from the Gold Coast Fishermen’s Co-Operative at The Spit in Southport. They’ll love feasting on fresh prawns and spanner crabs straight from the trawlers as they watch jet-skiers and glamorous yachts pass by while the sun sets. Delicious? Tick. Affordable? Tick. Picture-perfect? Tick.

GET UP AND CLOSE WITH THE WILDLIFE

Children of all ages (and children at heart) will get a kick out of a visit to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Home to koalas, kangaroos and colourful lorikeets, the much-loved Gold Coast attraction is sure to put a smile on your guests’ faces that will last all weekend. If it’s good enough for Taylor Swift…

EXPLORE THE LOCAL MARKETS

A trip to the Gold Coast wouldn’t be complete without wandering through the laid-back markets, tasting some delectable food and maybe picking up a suitably kitsch souvenir. For great food and music, have your guests visit the neon-lit Night Quarter Markets in Helensvale and the chilled Marina Mirage Farmers Markets. Hipster guests will love the über-cool Miami Marketta which hosts great live acts and street food venders, and boasts a unique dessert hall. Heaven.

INDULGE IN A HANGOVER CURE

Whether your guests will actually need a hangover cure or might just crave something hearty, salty and greasy, point them to Surfers Paradise’s Brooklyn Depot and Elston , where towering burgers, wings, hot dogs, fritters and fries are on the menu. Alfred’s Diner in Mermaid Beach is another must, offering cinnamon waffles, breakfast burritos and a range of breakfast burgers.

YOGA ON THE BEACH

Fitness-loving guests will be in their element when they take part in yoga on the beach. Helping them to find that perfect stretch, Essence of Living runs affordable classes throughout the week at Broadbeach and Main Beach. A great way to relax and take in the beauty of the Gold Coast, yoga on the beach will have your guests feeling refreshed and energised for your wedding. Namaste.
