Behind-the-scenes beauty: real bride Monique’s makeover by Kylie’s Professional

  |

In the Autumn issue of Queensland Brides we spoke to seven real brides about their wedding-day makeup. Here’s Monique’s story – plus beauty guru, Kylie’s Professional. More real brides to come!

Monique married Peter on 27 May 2016 at Madura Tea Estate, Clothiers Creek, in the Northern NSW hinterland. She wore a dress from Grace Loves Lace (altered slightly by Monique’s friend, who also made the veil!), and her hair and makeup were thanks to Kylie’s Professional.

The bride’s story

What was your original brief?

“Natural – as a person who doesn’t wear much makeup day-to-day, I wanted to feel comfortable yet beautiful.”

Why did you choose Kylie’s Professional?

“I have very sensitive skin and had heard through my sister and a friend that Kylie’s products were all natural, so I called her straight away.”

What was it like on the big day?

“Our ceremony was to begin at 2.30pm so Kylie and her assistant (her daughter, Skye) arrived nice and early, around 7.30am. It was all really relaxed and meant we had time to chat.

I felt really comfortable with them both and so did my bridesmaids and mum. They didn’t stop once the whole day – they were always checking our hair and makeup was just right, and allowing us to change things if it didn’t feel quite right. It was really fun and I felt so special. They were such lovely company to spend the morning of my wedding with!”

How did the finished result make you feel?

“I felt really confident and so ready to walk down the aisle to meet my groom and show myself off to him.”

Loveliest compliment on the day?

“From my husband, the only person who I wanted to impress… he said I looked beautiful and that he was so happy that I looked like me.”

What was the best tip Kylie gave you?

“That I didn’t have to do or prepare anything when it came to hair and beauty – they would look after everything. I just had to be there and she would work her magic. And she did!”

The makeup artist’s story

Kylie Eustace from Kylie’s Professional is a qualified professional hairdresser and salon owner, based on the Gold Coast. She’s also been a practising professional makeup artist for more than 20 years and has her own range of incredible products that she uses exclusively in her work.

What did you think when Monique told you about her desired look, dress and overall wedding style?

“Monique wanted a natural, soft, pretty look – it was important that it not be overdone. She sent me photos of her dress in advance, and we discussed hairstyles to suit its soft, romantic look. Monique’s hair is quite fine, so I also pre-made a ‘filling’ for a soft curled bun.”

Was there a trial run? If so, did you make any changes to the original brief?

“We didn’t do a trial as we discussed styles and looks over the phone and she sent me photos via email so I could study her face and her dress. I’ve also done her sister’s makeup in the past, so Monique was really comfortable to work this way, and then do her makeup on the day. I always allow a little extra time on the day if a bride doesn’t have a trial.”

What was the biggest challenge on the day?

“This was one of the smoothest and most relaxed weddings I’ve ever done! We didn’t have any challenges as all the people who were part of the day were so lovely.”

What’s the one product you can’t live without and use on every bride?

“I can’t live without water-resistant/waterproof mascara, as happy tears often flow on wedding days!”

What’s the one tip you give every brides on their wedding day?

“If you do cry, pat your face with a tissue – don’t wipe it.”

What’s the one word you’d use to describe how Monique looked?

“Elegant.”
