Regan and Joel wed on 18 March 2016 on Suttons Beach in Redcliffe, followed by a reception at Pilpel by the Sea.

The bride’s story

What was your original brief?

“I wanted to look elegant. The style of my dress was quite different, so I asked the girls from Brooklyn Beauty Bar for a look to match.”

Why did you choose BBB?

“I was trying to regain shape to my eyebrows and a friend told me about Brookie from BBB. She worked with me for a year to make sure that my brows were spot-on for the big day. Two months before my wedding, I asked her to tattoo my brows so that they’d look perfect for the day, and they did! I had other treatments as well – the girls’ talent is outstanding.”

What was it like on the day?

“It wasnt just on the day: my bridesmaid, bridesman, maid of honour and I all went in to BBB a few days before and were completely pampered with Champagne and treatments. On the day, my makeup artist, Taylah, arrived with a gift from all the girls at BBB! She did the makeup for me, my bridesmaid and my three daughters, and really made them feel special.”

How did the finished result make you feel?

“I felt gorgeous! Now I have beautiful wedding photos I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

Loveliest compliment on the day?

“People kept telling me I was a stunning bride. That word ‘stunning’ is one of the greatest compliments I think someone can give.”

What was the best tip BBB gave you?

“I got great advice about my brows, nails and even lashes. I would highly recommend BBB to anyone.”

The makeup artist’s story

Taylah Hampton is the go-to girl for wedding-day makeup at Brooklyn Beauty Bar. As bridal manager, she’s passionate about making women feel confident for their special day.

What did you think when Regan told you about her desired look, dress and overall wedding style?

“Leading up to the wedding Regan had her eyebrows feather-tatooed by our owner Brooke and she really suits that strong-brow look. Regan naturally has a classical but edgy look, and as soon as I met her I knew that enhancing her own quite distinctive style would work best. Regan’s naturally so stunning, as are her little girls who were her flower girls on the day, so the look was to be classic with a bit of a vintage feel, yet fresh and modern. I loved the look and the unique feel that Regan was going for.”

Was there a trial run? If so, how was it helpful? Did you make any changes to the original brief?

“No, we communicated really well and were on the same page, so a trial wasn’t necessary. I think Regan felt confident that I knew what I was doing and that I knew what she was looking for.”

What was the biggest challenge on the day?

“Regan’s brief was really clear so her makeup was fairly easy, but the little girls all wore makeup too and Regan wanted them to have the full experience of having their makeup done as part of the day. Each of the little girls was very much their own master of how they should look with selecting their outfits, accessories and also their makeup, so the challenge was to meet their briefs while also ensuring it wasn’t ‘too much’, because at the end of the day, they are little girls.”

What’s the one product you can’t live without and use on every bride?

“Shimmering Skin Perfector from Becca. I absolutely love this product, I mix it in with the foundation for the face and neck, and use the product on its own all over exposed areas such as shoulders, décolletage, arms and hands. The product evens out skin tones, gives the most luminous, natural-looking glow and also has SPF20 which is important for outdoor ceremonies and if photos are taken outside.”

What’s the one tip you give brides on their wedding day?

“Keep (or ask one of your bridesmaids to keep) a little touch-up kit of pressed powder and lippy. You kiss so many people and photos are taken all day and night, so it’s inevitable you will need a touch up.”

What’s the one word you’d use to describe how Regan looked?
