Blushing bride: Be pretty in pink this Friday to support a cause

We’re obsessed with lipstick here at QB – its a topic discussed on pretty much a daily basis. It’s not often, though, that we think of it as a way to help prevent breast and ovarian cancer, but that’s exactly what happens once a year on 22 September.

Bright Pink Lipstick Day is a fabulously beautiful way to raise awareness and start conversations that, while tough, are incredibly important. It’s all based around three questions: ‘How many people in my family have had cancer’; ‘At what age’; and ‘What type of cancer?’ To get involved, visit the BPLD website here, start your own fundraising challenge or donate, and wear your most gorgeous shade of pink lippy to get the conversation happening! Also, don’t forget to take a happy snap and use #brightpinklipstickday.

To get you inspired, we’re taking a look back at some of our favourite brides that rocked pink lips on their big day! Want to look pretty in pink too? Read on and check out our go-to tips for the perfect pink pout…

QB’s top five tips for the perfect pink lip

  1. Try mixing shades. If you can’t find the perfect colour in the one lipstick, try layering two shades to form the most flattering tone for you. This might take some experimenting, so visit your favourite beauty brand’s counter or a makeup artist for their recommendations.
  2. Be wary of blush. If you’re sporting a pink lip, your blush will automatically stand out so be careful not to over-apply… unless you’re going for that striking ’80s glam rock look.
  3. Berry tones look amazing on darker-toned skin. Jewel- and berry-toned pinks look vibrant and utterly stunning on darker-toned skin so play around with richly pigmented lipsticks.
  4. Know your undertones if you have fair-toned skin. Pink undertones can pull off Barbie-inspired or candy-coloured pink shades, while peachy tones work for a softer look. For yellow undertones, go with more coral-toned lipsticks.
  5. Have the right base. Pink lipsticks can show imperfections like chapped lips, so gently exfoliate your lips before applying if needed. And, of course, prime!
