Oh what a night!
The Grand Ballroom of the Brisbane Hilton Hotel was abuzz on Monday evening the 29th October, with over 450 people waiting in anticipation for what was to be the biggest bridal fashion event of the year ... the 2007 Queensland Brides Design Awards! The crowd was not disappointed, with 16 of the state’s top bridal designers showcasing 70 gowns in four categories. Also a highlight of the evening was the ‘Calico Bride’ student category, where 27 budding designers dazzled the audience with their creativity, flair and talent using calico.
It wasn’t an easy job for the judging panel, who not only had to decide a Winner, a Runner Up and a Highly Commended for each category, but which gown was to receive the coveted Supreme Award. The selected 97.3 FM listeners’ judging panel also had a tough task of choosing the People’s Choice Winner, Runner Up and Highly Commended awards. This guest panel of three People’s Choice judges were recruited prior to the event in a special 97.3 FM promotion and sat alongside fellow judges, radio personality Dani Bellamy and Channel Nine’s Extra presenter Jasmin Geisel (who at the time was only five sleeps away from her own wedding day!).
The evening was hosted by comperes Steve Hill and Leigh Muirhead, who kept the commentary flowing and ended the event with the drawing of some fabulous lucky door prizes. These giveaways included a weekend for two at Sea Temple Resort & Spa, Palm Cove and a $500 groom’s package donated by Tony Barlow Menswear. Guests enjoyed a dancing demonstration by I Do Dancing and everyone took home a complimentary Design Awards bag jam-packed full of great wedding day special offers. A big thank you to Andrew Porfyri of Porfyri Photography, who was our photographer at the event and whose work is displayed on the following pages! To those who could not join us on the night, we hope this showcase of gorgeous gowns provides you with much inspiration. |
