Expert Q&A – Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club

QB chats with Function/Venue Manager Christina McIver of Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club, who shares her expert advice every bride-to-be should know.

What do you think is the most important question every bride should ask?

Do you have a wet weather back up for the ceremony in case the weather is inclement? Our answer is yes we do. It’s always a shame to move an outdoor ceremony inside; however our wet weather back-up room has floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto the golf course which still provides a beautiful indoor/outdoor aspect. We only need to decide two hours before the ceremony if you’re going inside or outside to say ‘I do’. The room is also air-conditioned so if it’s a very hot day, you can still move inside if you wish.

How would you describe your location?

On the northern end of the Gold Coast, Sanctuary Cove is picturesque, stunning and naturally beautiful which means you’re guaranteed amazing wedding photographs on the golf course

How do you assist the couple with their planning?

By treating them the way I would like to be treated if it was myself getting married. I pride myself on being attentive, returning every email and phone call super quickly so our bride and groom can continue on with their planning without delay.

Do you have a favourite wedding story you like to tell?

Alysha & Barry Burke met over a love of Disney so naturally they celebrated their wedding ‘Disney style’ with us – Mickey and Minnie Mouse featured throughout their reception, in their on-course photography – even down to the bridal party wearing Disney-themed Converse shoes! It is always so nice to see brides and grooms infusing something truly personal into their journey of love throughout their wedding.

What is the most popular time for weddings at your venue?

The end of autumn and the start of spring followed closely by the end of spring.

What sort of cuisine do you offer at your venue? Do you have a favourite dish? Modern Australian and they are great portion sizes! Food is a very important aspect of any wedding as guests always remember the food experience they have. Our award-winning chefs are extremely talented and feedback on the food is always fantastic. My favourite dish would be the hot smoked lamb rump with caramelised pumpkin and red onion risoni, wild rocket and rosemary oil.

Is there accommodation on-site, or nearby?

There is a lot of accommodation within Sanctuary Cove Resort which means it’s only a five minute drive from our beautiful venue. This makes Sanctuary Cove the perfect location for a ‘destination wedding’. There is the five-star InterContinental Resort Sanctuary Cove hotel, along with short rental homes and villas.

What gives your venue the ‘wow’ factor?

The elegance and history of our prestigious Country Club building teamed with the breathtaking golf course, lake and landscaped garden views makes it a venue that will not be forgotten.

What is your favourite ceremony location?

We have a beautiful lawn overlooking the Palms Golf Course for outdoor ceremonies. Quite often you’ll be able to see kangaroos and swans in their natural habitat from the ceremony area!

Do you have a top wedding tip you’d like to share with couples?

Stay true to your personal style and what you’re comfortable with, i.e. If you’re vintage by nature, stick with a vintage theme. Also, don’t overthink or try to micro-manage every aspect of your wedding. Marrying the love of your life, whilst surrounded by your loved ones, enjoying great music and fabulous food, will ensure a wonderful and memorable night is had by all.
