Just Married: Jamie + Bhrett

They say you should always keep the weather in mind when planning a wedding, but it’s safe to say that Jamie and Bhrett never would have predicted the forecast for their wedding day. If you think a little rain is a massive drama, spare a thought for this couple who tied the knot right after a cyclone.

Jamie and Bhrett fell in love with Airlie Beach venue Lure Abell Point Marina and were excited to say “I do” there… then Cyclone Debbie hit. Luckily, the waterside venue was spared from the wreckage and the couple were able to go ahead with their plans, though some needed a little rearranging. “Our biggest hurdles were whether or not the airport would reopen in time and finding alternative accommodation for our guests,” says Bhrett.

As if all that wasn’t stressful enough, the power was restored to the area just three days before the wedding – thankfully that was enough time for the couple’s cake artist to work their magic. “For the entire week leading up to the wedding, our friends, family and [Lure Function Centre Manager] Nolwenn continually offered their help and support,” says Bhrett. “One friend even flew our wedding rings to Brisbane so that my bridesmaid could have them cleaned in time!” Squad goals, right?

Despite the challenges, Jamie and Bhrett celebrated in style and enjoyed a night full of dancing, laughter and incredible food. “We had a banquet-style reception and the food was superb – not one guest was disappointed,” says Bhrett. “Everything just came together beautifully and the people at Lure helped make it happen.”
