Just Married: Sophie + Clint

Deep in the Amazon rainforest, aboard a boat to a tiny Peruvian village, Sophie and Clint’s paths crossed.“We had already been travelling together for about a week and hadn’t spoken much,” admits Sophie. What started as polite chatting led to hours of deep conversation, long after everyone else in their tour group has fallen asleep. At the end of their month-long tour of South America Sophie googled the weather in her home town of London – the forecast was unsurprisingly drizzly. “Obviously it was raining,” she says. “Clint did the same and it was sunny and 26°C in Cairns so I decided to extend my travels for a week or two.”

Fast-forward four years and the couple are still travelling the world together – in fact, France’s romantic capital was the proposal destination where, standing on a bridge over the Seine under twinkling Christmas lights, Clint popped the question with his great grandmother’s ring.

With guests flying in from around the world, Sophie and Clint wanted their wedding theme to be “Australian with a Balinese feel”; the spectacular Bali Hai in north Queensland was the ideal venue. “We both love the outdoors and Bali Hai’s location, nestled next to a private creek in the middle of the rainforest, was just perfect for us,” says Sophie.

The wedding of this globe-trotting couple was enhanced by a handful of quirky details that made the celebration unique and infused with this couple’s fun-loving personalities. Sophie’s dad and Clint cleverly converted a fully-restored vintage Bedford truck into a mobile bar complete with beer taps, while honey from Clint’s dad’s backyard beehive was bottled into small jars to create the perfect wedding favours. “The best part of the day was being surrounded by our family and friends from all over the world,” says Sophie. “Many of them travelled a long way and, although we didn’t know it at the time, it was also one of the last times we spent with my grandmother. I couldn’t be more grateful that we were able to spend the occasion with her.”

Before retreating to the south coast of France for their honeymoon, Sophie and Clint celebrated an unforgettable reception where the tunes were pumping and the drinks were flowing. “The best man convinced both our mothers to join him in a shot of Patron XO Cafe Tequila at our new bar – it was certainly a highlight, and it was caught on video,” laughs Sophie. “We also really enjoyed the photography session, messing around with our best friends and a few bottles of Champagne ended in some hilarious shots!” With family and friends by their sides, the big day ended under a canopy of lush rainforest and glittering stars. From the gorgeous styling to the clearly infectious laid-back vibe, this wedding is one to love.
