Kirstel + Scott: rainforest meets woodlands

  |

Everyone knows that small towns have plenty of community spirit, and in the little township of Tully in Far North Queensland this was certainly true for Kirstel and Scott. When the two met and fell in love, the community banded together to create their dream day, recommending vendors and driving kilometres to find the perfect dress. The results? Truly beautiful.

With the best of intentions, Kirstel chose her dress a year before the wedding when trouble presented itself. “Over the year my weight and shape changed,” says Kirstel. “I tried on my initial dress and it just didn’t look right.” Purchasing a new gorgeous gown, Kirstel looked stunning… until the fabric caused a skin reaction. With just two weeks till the special day, the bride’s mother drove all the way to Brisbane to find her a dress from the Babushka Ballerina. “She express posted my dress and thankfully it ended up being the most beautiful dress I have ever seen!” Someone give that woman a Mum of the Year award.

Inspired by the lush surroundings and Scott’s hobby as a deer hunter, the two chose a whimsical rainforest-meets-woodlands theme for their wedding. “Someone told me our theme reminded them of the movie Bambi with a dash of princess – I loved hearing that,” laughs Kirstel. Enlisting the help of their friends and family, the two put together a wedding that showcased the best of the region. “We found all our vendors by word of mouth and from friends. We wanted our wedding to be local because we’re lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the country.”

Kirstel and Scott said ‘I do’ in a touching ceremony in the tranquil private gardens at Serenity Weddings, surrounded by loved ones and the stunning rainforest. Saying a vow to Kirstel’s six-year-old-daughter Amelia and presenting her with a special bracelet, Scott became a little emotional but powered through to tie the knot with the gorgeous Kirstel. “Marriage means family to me,” says Kirstel. “It’s the joining of Scott and me, choosing each other and choosing to start a family together.”

Topped off by a fun-filled reception at Millers Beach Bar and Grill, the wedding of Kirstel and Scott was full of love and plenty of good times.
