10 Budget-Saving Ideas

Book a weekday wedding… and 9 other budget-saving ideas

Wrestle your budget back into the black with these out-of-the-box tips from the experts at white + white weddings and events, Yasmine and Danielle. Be a little creative with tradition and you’ll have money to splurge on the things you really want for your big day.

1. Weekday wedding (given enough time guests can make arrangements). Venues often have a more expensive minimum spend or hire on a Saturday night. Friday and Sundays have become the new Saturday! Furniture deliveries on a weekday are also less expensive.

2. Opt for an early morning/brunch style wedding – a perfectly delightful option for Queensland’s sunburnt summer days. It means brunch and patisserie style foods instead of the age old three course meal and scrumptious coffees, hot chocolates, frappes and juices instead of the astronomical alcohol budget. It also means venue and supplier availability because you aren’t competing with ‘high season’. Things like florists and photographers will cost the same as their travel and service expenses aren’t affected but with the money you’ll save on the rest of the event you could splurge here. It also means amazing photos – morning light looks spectacular.

3. Less is more – by cutting your guest list in half you can spoil you guests on a lavish wedding reception. We have seen some couples opt for a degustation style, choosing an amazing wine list and gorgeous table styling for their intimate wedding.

4. Tablescapes and florals – often tables styled with florals can add up quickly. Why not opt for more candlelight on the tables and one large floral statement piece? It could be an entrance piece or overhanging installation.

5. Bridal Party – have a small party or none at all. With a smaller party there are fewer decisions to be made on dress and attire choices, which can often become very stressful and expensive. Why don’t you invite your close friends to get ready with you instead?

6. Wedding favours – make a donation to your favourite charity for the same value you would have spent on wedding favours for each of your guests or DIY favours like potted seedlings of herbs, flowers and vegetables that you grow yourself. Grow in seedling pots and decorate in hessian and a cute ribbon. Guests will enjoy receiving a gift they can use after the wedding.

7. Invites – save money by creating your invitations and wedding info online, there are apps available for your guests to download and keep all your wedding details close at hand.

8. Save on your honeymoon by setting up a registry with the likes of Flight Centre for guests to contribute to upon receipt of their invitation/RSVP.

9. Etsy is a great source to find styling items at a savvy price.

10. Destination wedding – this can be a save AND splurge option. Only your closest friends and family means more money to splurge on location, location, location.
