Real Life Wedding : Alyce + Chris

Alyce Arrowsmith and Christopher Hendey were surrounded by love and romance right from the start, given that they met at a mutual friend’s wedding. Their own wedding day was polished to perfection, with a picturesque outdoor ceremony followed by an elegant reception at Stamford Plaza. The QB team absolutely adores these dreamy nuptials.

QB: How did you meet?

We actually met at a mutual family friend’s wedding!

QB: Tell us about the proposal.

We took our dog for a walk on the beach to our favourite spot, which was where we went on our first date. I was taking a photo of the sunset when Chris said, ‘I’m really impatient.’ I turned around and saw him on one knee with a ring in his hand. He and our dog both looked up at me, anxiously awaiting my response. Obviously I said yes!

QB: Why did you choose Stamford Plaza for your wedding?

We both fell in love with the Stamford Plaza Brisbane as soon as we arrived. It provided various photo locations at walking distance, ceremony and reception at the same venue and also gave our guests somewhere to stay after the wedding.

QB: What did you do for your hen’s and buck’s?

My bridesmaids hired a house in Noosa for the weekend. I wanted it really nice and small, and more like a girls weekend away. There was pampering, cocktails, food and lots of photos!

The Groomsmen organised a surprise two night boys weekend away at the Gold Coast. They had a very competitive day of go karting, and then later headed out to dinner and of course some drinks.

QB: What did you splurge on and what did you save on for your wedding?

To us, the photographer was very important as photos are really the only thing that will last a lifetime. I did lots of research and got lots of quotes. I never felt like I compromised however by doing this it helped me find suppliers which could provide exactly what I wanted at a more affordable price and also, if I ever felt I could make/do anything myself, I did!

QB: What was the funniest moment of the day?

I had just sat down in the reception room, and the bartender arrives with my drink which I requested, Chambord, lemonade and lime. It arrives without the lime but I said nothing. My mother-in-law comes over and notices my drink has no lime and said, “Did you ask for lime in your drink?”, I said that I did but not to worry. Next minute she is grabbing my drink taking it back over to the bar stating, “You are the bride, and you requested lime!”. Everyone laughed when she returned not by our surprise with not just one, but two pieces of lime in the drink. Apparently the bartender had to go downstairs to the main bar to retrieve some limes, just for me.

QB: What was the most special memory from the day?

I’m sure everyone responds with this answer, but I really couldn’t pick one moment which was more special than the rest. The whole day was even more special and perfect then I had even imagined.

QB: What did you do for your honeymoon?

USA & Hawaii. We only booked our flights and a mustang and just planned everything day by day!

QB: What advice would you give other brides-to-be?

Allocate a family member or friend to organise the guests to be ready for their family photos after the ceremony. You have paid lots of money for your photographer to be there so you don’t want to be paying them to stand around and wait for the next group shot to be ready.
