Couple Real Weddings

Real Life Wedding : Luisa + Paul

City-loving couple, Luisa and Paul Ciappara said their vows among the skyscrapers in their home town of Brisbane. Dressed in a gorgeous Swarovski crystal-adorned gown, the glamorous bride and her dashing groom chose a styling palette of neutral shades. This worked perfectly at their Customs House reception, adding understated elegance and grandeur.

QB: How did you meet?

Paul and I met through a mutual friend Laura. Laura and I worked together at the time, and Laura’s husband Kris is Paul’s best mate. I had heard Laura mention Paul a few times at work and always thought he sounded like a good catch. Then one night, I asked Laura and a few of the girls to watch my dance competition. Little did I know, she was going to bring Paul with her. We got introduced and there was an instant connection. He then found me on ‘Myspace’ (haha) and asked me out on a date. We had an amazing first date and the rest is history!

QB: Tell us about the proposal…

Paul proposed on Christmas day of 2013. He gave me a large box, which contained Christmas presents in smaller boxes inside. After unwrapping each gift, the smallest box left at the end was empty. I looked up and he was down on one knee with the most beautiful ring in his hand. He then asked me to marry him. I was left speechless and it was the happiest moment of my life!

QB: What was your key styling inspiration?

I would describe my style as understated elegance. I have never been a fan of colour, so we chose a soft, romantic, neutral theme of ivory, nude and black. The magnificence of Custom’s House inspired our wedding theme and style. Our reception was held in the Long Room, which is absolutely stunning with it’s cathedral ceiling and sculptured pillars. We went with classic ivory and white for the table settings, which brought together the effortless look.

QB: What did you do for your hens and bucks?

Hens: My hens party was in Melbourne and was organised by my 3 beautiful bridesmaids. We stayed at the amazing The Blackman Hotel in St Kilda. First stop was a salsa dancing lesson and a professional photographer to capture all the fun! Then we had a short walk to Mr. Wolf for dinner, where the girls had organised a private dining area and some cheeky games. We then partied on at the St. Hotel! The girls spoilt me with little clues and gifts throughout the night and my maid of honour even ordered mini personalised cupcakes with our hashtag #paulandlusayido ! It was the best night and the girls absolutely nailed it – they know me too well!

Bucks: Paul’s bucks party was also in Melbourne. The boys had a day of golf at Albert Park, followed by a steak and ribs dinner at Squires Loft, before hitting the town. They had a great weekend together.

QB: Why did you choose Brisbane City for your wedding?

Paul and I loved the idea of a city wedding, as we were both inspired by cities like New York, London, Rome and Paris during our travels. Being born and raised in Melbourne, I grew up around beautiful old buildings and churches and wanted these elements to be a part of our special day. We chose the most magnificent buildings in Brisbane: Stamford Plaza, St Stephen’s Cathedral and Custom’s House. All venues encapsulate stunning architecture, which suited our theme of timeless elegance and grandeur.

QB: What gifts did you give your guests?

Mini Italian sparkling wine bottles with traditional flavoured sugared almonds (imported from Italy).

QB: What was the funniest moment of the day?

Putting Paul’s wedding ring on the wrong finger during our ceremony!

QB: What was the most special memory from the day?

Walking down the isle with my Dad by my side, seeing Paul at the end.

QB: What did you do for your honeymoon?

We flew to Thailand the day after the wedding. We spent the week at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Resort in Phuket, which was so luxurious and relaxing.

QB: What advice would you give other brides-to-be?

When it comes to styling, less is more!
