Real proposal: Bronte + Tim

Bronte Reid and Tim Kuusik flew into Singapore on Valentine’s morning 2015; where Tim had booked them into the Marina Bay Sands. They spent the afternoon at the hotel’s famous rooftop pool and spa, overlooking the city. From there, Tim pointed out Pollen, the restaurant where they’d be enjoying a degustation dinner that night. Arriving in the hotel’s garden to go to the restaurant, Bronte discovered a huge ‘LOVE’ sign in fairy lights, just for her. “Knowing I love The Bachelor, Tim gave me a single red rose as the ‘final rose’ and then got down on one knee and proposed. By this stage we had an audience who applauded us – how embarrassing! I was so surprised Tim had managed to organise such a spectacular proposal from the other side of the world!”

The engagement ring: a 1.51ct round, brilliant-cut diamond with pavé-set diamonds on the shoulder from Clayfield Jewellery

The ring

“My best friend had her stunning ring made by Clayfield Jewellery,” says Bronte. “I knew once I found the perfect design that I’d ask Trevor and his team to make mine. I’m so glad I did – it looks better than the original design! There are pavé-set diamonds on the shoulder of the band, and the centre stone is a 1.51ct round, brilliant-cut diamond that sits quite high up thanks to a diamond-encrusted crossover at the sides, which is probably the thing I love the most. I still constantly look at my ring in awe – I’m a very lucky girl!”

Top tip

“Do your research, shop around and buy the centre stone first – while we’d all love to have a three carat D-colour diamond, for the majority of us this isn’t a reality. But there are certain things you can compromise on more than others, have an idea of what you’re looking for – and don’t get talked into buying whatever’s in stock in the first shop you visit!”
