Real Wedding: Alissa & Angus

The romantic styling of Alissa Gianarakis and Angus McDougall’s Brisbane nuptials had us gushing. Those florals! Those chairs! That cake! We also love the opulent bridesmaids’ styling and mix or traditional elements (church service, rose petals, vintage photographs) and modern choices (Alissa’s gorge gown, fireworks, sparkler send off, New York honeymoon). This was certainly a day to cherish.

The Couple: Alissa Gianarakis and Angus McDougall

Location: Brisbane

No. of Guests: 200

First Dance Song: Angus and Alissa’s first dance was to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. During the last moments of the song fireworks shot up from outside on the balcony lining the entire glass wall to illuminate the room.

Theme: Traditional, Elegant, Romantic

How did you meet?
Neither Alissa nor Angus were feeling up to a night on the town but were both eventually persuaded by friends. A mutual friend introduced them over a drink at the bar and the rest is history. Alissa believes this must have been fate at work. They have been inseparable ever since.

Tell us about the proposal…
A surprise romantic getaway to Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast turned into the most memorable and special evening when Angus produced a little blue box and on bended knee proposed to a very surprised but elated Alissa. It was beautiful, romantic and just the way she had always dreamt it would be.

What Made the Wedding Uniquely ‘Ours’
Guests have commented that it wasn’t the abundance of flowers, the beautiful romantic styling, the attention to detail or the amazing food, but more so the warm and loving way in which the bride and groom made everyone feel so welcomed, loved and as though the guests were the most important part of the day.

What was the funniest moment of the day?
Some of the funniest moments of the day were during the photographs after the ceremony but in particular when the poor photographers were trying to get 12 people to maintain the pose made famous by ‘Derek Zoolander’ without hysterical laughter.

What was the most special moment of the day?
A very poignant and special moment for both Alissa and Angus was the sparkler ‘send off’ in memory of Alissa’s Grandfather who sadly passed away earlier in the year. Set against a backdrop of the Brisbane River and the beautiful city lights in the distance, guests lined the balcony and raised lit sparklers to form a spectacular tunnel through which the newlyweds departed the venue.

Special thanks…
Alissa and Angus sincerely thank their parents, family and friends for sharing the day with them and helping them to create these wonderful memories.

Do you have any advice for future brides-to-be?
