How did you meet?

I was Simon’s hairdresser for four years before we started dating.

Tell us about the proposal…

Simon proposed in the Botanical Gardens in Brisbane. He surprised me by organising all our family to meet us at Mr and Mrs G Riverbar for a drink. It was so lovely seeing everyone and celebrating with the people we love. We all then had dinner at ARIA (our favourite restaurant).

Why did you choose Carbrook for your wedding?

We both love the country, and loved the thought of having wonderful memories at my parent’s farm.

What did you do for your hens and bucks?

My bridesmaids organised a weekend at my parent’s cattle property. We had a chef come and cook us all a beautiful dinner and had a canapés beside the fire. Simon went go-carting, followed by dinner and drinking in the Fortitude Valley.

Key Styling Inspiration

Rustic, effortless, colourful.

Where did you splurge and where did you save on for your wedding?

We splurged on the clear marquee, catering, my dress and the flowers.

We definitely saved by using my parent’s property, as it is very expensive to hire venues like this.  We also saved by using our own transport. Simon and I went home after the wedding so we saved on accommodation. We love our house and wanted to spend out first night there. I bought the bridesmaids dresses and shoes online which helped.

What gifts did you give your guests?

Female guests received a pashmina. They were all different colours. I love that everyone wore them on the night.

What was the funniest moment of the day?

The dancing. Some of our friends carved up the dance floor.

What was the most special memory from the day?

My nephew is four and he made a speech – it was just gorgeous. When we left, all the guests joined in a circle in the paddock so that Simon and I could individually say goodbye to them. I loved this as we were able to thank everyone and say our goodbyes while the band played. Everyone was saying lovely things…. I got very emotional.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

New Zealand. We hired a campervan for eight days and drove around the South Island. We then we had seven days in Queenstown where we went skiing and ate lots of yummy food, and local wine.

Special thanks to…

Our families. All our suppliers were fantastic, I want to have another event so that I can deal with them again. They were all lovely.

What advice would you give other brides-to-be?

Remember your wedding day is also about your families. Make them involved, as they are just as excited as you. They also have thought of this day for a long time and want to make sure it is amazing for their child.
