How did you meet?

We met through mutual friends at my 18th birthday. We didn’t come together on the night but there was a definite attraction from both of us. We kept in touch by messaging each other over a couple years. One night he asked me out and I said yes.

Tell us about the proposal…

We were on an overseas trip in Tokyo, Japan and had gone on a tour to Mt Fuji. It was a miserable day, raining with fog so thick you couldn’t see the mountain and a couple souvenir shops, he later told me he scrapped the idea to propose there and changed the plan and took me to Tokyo Tower that night we were on the top of the building and you could see the whole city lit up. He pulled me aside and said he had planned a special tour for us and gave me a piece of paper. I opened it up and it was a magic eye puzzle, I stared at it trying to read what it said until it came clear and read will you marry me? Of course I said yes!

Why did you choose Brisbane City Hall for your wedding?

The groom was actually the one who suggested City Hall for the reception! We arranged an appointment and went and had a look at the main ballroom. We knew the moment we went in that it was perfect, it was so grand and beautiful with the lit up ceiling, huge organ and intricate detail around the room after the new renovations, it looks like a palace!

What did you do for your hens and bucks?

The girls hired out a hotel for 2 nights in the valley. The boys had a party at the best mans house.

DIY Details

Our invitations were a pop up card with a church on the inside. As fun as they were on the inside the outside was plain so we glued lace on the outside and tied a ribbon around them.

What was your key styling inspiration?

Disney! One of the alternating centrepieces was a glass dome with flowers on the inside inspired by Beauty and the Beast, as was the draping on the cake table and main table. My dress was also snow white inspired from the Alfred Angelo disney range.

Where did you splurge and where did you save on your wedding?

Transport, we had a stretch hummer and a Cinderella carriage. The Cinderella carriage was so pretty and fun to be in! It really made me feel like a princess.

What gifts did you give your guests?

Our favours were a cork top jar, filled with rock candy that had our names on it (which our best man bought for us), with a tag stamped with thank you, our names and the date, tied on with twine.

What was the funniest moment of the day?

When the boys were getting ready in the morning and put their suits on for the photos one of the groomsmen had the wrong suit on because the arms were too short. No one knew where it was and it was finally found back at the grooms house. Another moment was when the priest gives the bride and groom wine to drink and made my groom skull it 3 times to the point that he gagged and the priest wiped the sweat from his forehead!

What was the most special memory from the day?

Walking down the aisle to see each other at the front of the church. Also opening the notes from each other in the morning.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

On the Monday we flew to the USA, we went to Orlando, Miami and Dallas. It was so much fun, we went to Disneyland, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios, went to the beach in Miami and went to the Texas state fair.

Special thanks to…

Our parents for providing us with a fairytale wedding that was everything we dreamed of and more. Our suppliers for making it all come together. Bridal party for helping us have a fun, stress free day. Family and friends for coming and being a part of our day.

What advice would you give other brides-to-be?

Don’t worry if you don’t get to see all your guests, if you try to see everyone the night will be over! Also, don’t worry if everything isn’t perfect no one else will notice accept for you.
