Real Wedding: Carly & Travers

  |

Carly Magno’s elegant Audrey Hepburn-inspired hen’s night was a sign of things to come when it came to marrying her sweetheart Travers Weaver. The pair’s classic styling looked a picture against a seemingly endless supply of gorgeous settings at Lakelands Golf Course while romantic styling details created a warm and welcoming atmosphere inside the reception.

How did you meet?

We met at university in medical school six years ago, after being introduced through mutual friends.

Tell us about the proposal…

During a holiday in Vanuatu, Travers organised a romantic private dinner at our villa. It was incredibly romantic and he got down on one knee with a beautiful engagement ring that he secretly designed for me.

What did you do for your hens and bucks nights?

The hen’s night was Audrey Hepburn inspired with little black dresses, pearls and an intimate high tea with games and laughter, followed by cocktails, dinner and dancing.

The buck’s was a weekend away of adventure including go karting, surfing, rock climbing and golf, and some sneaky drinks throughout.

Why did you choose Lakelands Golf Course for your wedding?

We chose this venue as it provided us with a stunning setting for our ceremony, photos and reception, which was perfect considering we had many interstate guests. The beautiful Jacaranda trees framed our ceremony location and the on-site photo locations were breathtaking. The package was very inclusive – from food, DJ, theming and more. The food was of a high standard and absolutely delicious. The staff and the service were brilliant.

Where did you splurge & where did you save on your wedding?

Wedding photography was important to us and we spent extra on a great photographer, Adam Finch from Studio Impressions. It was definitely worth it. We tried to save money by doing all of our own stationery and invitations.

What gifts did you give your guests?

We have a love of lollies, with a lolly jar always filled at our home, so we gave our guests glass jars filled with jellybeans. We also had white thongs for “dancing shoes” for our female guests so that they could take off their shoes and dance the night away.

Key Styling Inspiration
We tried to create a classic romantic feel that we would still love in years to come. We chose beautiful glass vases with floating candles as our centrepieces from a huge selection from the Lakelands stylist. We added lots of extra details like small vases of pink, white and champagne flowers, lots of candles, and personal touches to the room to create a warm romantic feel. Simone and her team helped bring together all of my planning to create a stunning reception room.

DIY Details?

All of our stationery was made by hand in addition to our wedding entrance signs and favours.

What was the funniest moment of the day?

The precarious event of ensuring we didn’t fall into the creek when trying to capture a breathtaking photo opportunity at our photographers request – it involved being bare foot and hitching up my lace wedding dress above my knees, chapel length veil in hand, and jumping across two creeks, while our wedding party filmed it from a distance in case we fell in…lucky we didn’t fall in.

What was the most special memory ?

Travers: My first glimpse of Carly in her wedding dress at the top of the isle as they were adjusting her dress and veil just before she started walking down towards me.

Special thanks to…

Special thanks to Simone and her team for making our day run so smoothly and seamless. A special thank you to all of our suppliers and our family and friends for making it a day to remember.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

We spent our honeymoon relaxing in far north Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef.

Advice for other brides-to-be?

Choose suppliers whose work you love and get along with and remember to stay relaxed on your wedding day and enjoy every moment as the day itself goes so quickly.
