Real Wedding: Chantelle and Peter

  |

For Chantelle and Peter their wedding ceremony and reception venue was a symbolic blend for both the bride and groom. As Chantelle recalls, “our ceremony venue was a historic site which represented Peter’s history with Brisbane. I have a history of horse racing in my family and I’ve always loved that style of architecture, so our reception at Brisbane Racing Club, represented me.” The pair embraced the talents of white+white weddings to give their reception the feel of a big family dinner to celebrate with guests. We couldn’t think of better inspiration!

How did you meet?

At a party at a friends place.

Tell us about the proposal…

It wasn’t a very elaborate or “movie style” proposal, it was just authentic and very ‘us’. Peter proposed to me the night before our trip America, in our home. It was just the two of us, and it was heartfelt and genuine.

Why did you choose Newstead House and Brisbane Racing Club for your wedding?

I have a history of horse racing in my family and I’ve always loved that style of architecture, so in a way our reception venue symbolically represented me in a way. The ceremony was chosen to symbolically represent Peter. It was a Brisbane historic site which represented his history with Brisbane.

What did you do for your hens and bucks?

Bucks: Peter went for a night out on the town.

Hens: An afternoon on a yacht sailing through Moreton Bay.

DIY Details

We made the stationary, with the help of our graphic designer, Amy.

Key Styling Inspiration?

A big family dinner. We wanted an elegant feel, without being pompous.

What did you splurge on and what did you save on for your wedding?

We splurged on the photography and saved on invites

What was the funniest moment of the day?

Speeches were great, we all had a laugh.

What was the most special memory from the day?

To see the joy on our loved ones’ faces. To have the people we most loved be able to celebrate our joy with us. Our support team (the vendors) worked so hard with us to help make such a wonderful day, and did it with such love and sincere joy. We couldn’t have done it without them.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

Travelled Europe for two months

Special thanks to…

Danielle White from white+white weddings, Marcus Bell from Studio Impressions, Jacqueline Moore from Brisbane Racing Club and everyone else who helped (for example, Greg from AVI Ideas with our lighting, Susie from The Butterfly Lounge, etc).

What advice would you give other brides-to-be?

Enjoy as much of the day as you can – it’s true what everyone says, it really does go so fast. Decide early what you want to prioritise, then use that as a guide to make your decisions. It makes saying yes and no to things much easier.
