How did you meet?

Paul and I both worked at Coles while we were studying at uni. We met at the staff Christmas party. A couple of months later he invited me to a concert and we’ve been happily together ever since.

Tell us about the proposal…

Paul planned a date on Christmas Eve and told me that this would be our Christmas tradition. We went to the movies, ate dinner at a nice restaurant, enjoyed some cocktails and then looked at some of the Christmas lights around the city. Before the date I had a sneaking suspicion that he might propose, but towards end of the date I thought it wasn’t going to happen. We got a taxi home and when we got to the door Paul covered my eyes and said that he had a Christmas surprise for me inside. He got his family to decorate our unit with flowers and there were candles everywhere, it was beautiful! It was also my parents’ 30th wedding anniversary which made it even more special.

Why did you choose Corpus Christi Church and the Convention Centre Sky Room and Terrace for your wedding?

The Corpus Christi Church is so beautiful and has so much character, we also used to live near there so the area had some great memories of our relationship. We loved the views of the city and Wheel of Brisbane from the Convention Centre Sky Room and Terrace. The location was also great and we felt that it had the kind of atmosphere that we wanted for our reception.

What did you do for your hens and bucks?

For my hens, we hired a holiday house on the river in Mooloolaba. We had a Gatsby themed night and hired a cocktail waiter who made us delicious cocktails while we played some games and danced the night away. It was a wonderful, crazy weekend! Paul had his bucks in Brisbane which involved go karts in the morning, a game of golf and then beers and dinner at The Charming Squire.

DIY Details

We made all our table numbers by framing photos of us when we were children. At table one we had a photo of both of us when we were one etc. It took a bit of organising, but it added a personal touch to our reception. My sister hand wrote all the names on the jars in calligraphy and we put them together with twine and little thank you tags.

Key Styling Inspiration?

Soft colours, simple, elegant and classic. I wanted a look that wouldn’t date.

Where did you splurge and where did you save on your wedding?

I was lucky to get the bridesmaids dresses on sale. We had to go to a couple of different stores to get the right sizes, but we got them all in the end and they looked great! We spent more on our photographer and videographer. This was definitely worth it as we are very happy with our photos and video, they captured the day so well!

What gifts did you give your guests?

Jars of rock candy with our names on it.

What was the funniest moment of the day?

Our priest performing the ceremony! He had a good sense of humour and made us all laugh, our guests definitely weren’t expecting that. He made us feel so relaxed and at ease.

What was the most special memory from the day?

The whole day was amazing! I will never forget walking down the aisle and seeing Paul’s face for the first time. The car ride from the ceremony to photos, Paul and I had time together to talk about our mornings, the day so far and how we were feeling. It was great having that time together after the ceremony, we were on such a high! Also loved having everyone that has been a part of our lives in one room together, something that probably won’t happen again.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

Five nights in the Maldives, staying in an overwater bungalow and two nights in Singapore on the way back. It was so good to have such a relaxing honeymoon after such a busy time.

Special thanks to…

Our families for all their help and support on and leading up to the day! Our bridal party, they were wonderful and helped make our day even more special. All the staff at the Convention Centre, the service was so professional and we were really happy with everything. All of our amazing vendors, especially our photographer Naomi and videographer Mitch.

What advice would you give other brides-to-be?

Relax and enjoy the day! Make sure you are well organised so that you can be relaxed. Make sure you go to bed early and get a good night’s sleep (I didn’t!). Do your research and pick vendors that are the right fit for you. Spend money on a good photographer and videographer, you won’t regret it. Keep an open mind and trust the decisions that you make. When you are planning don’t forget what it’s all about- marrying the love of your life 🙂
