Real Wedding: Hannah and Andrew

Confession time: we love a gorgeous pair of wedding-day shoes, and Hannah’s absolutely take the cake (Louboutins are our dream). Though we’ve reserved our serious love-eyes for the couple – their laughter and love is utterly contagious, and their intimate tropical garden wedding a dream come true…

How did you meet?

We worked together at Telstra.

Tell us about the proposal…

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 on the total solar eclipse on the beach in Cairns. It was overcast and cloudy so we couldn’t see much but then at the last minute the clouds parted. Everyone on the beach was clapping, including me then Andrew was tapping me on the shoulder, and I remember thinking, “what?!” He had the ring and then I was a crying clapping mess. Very special and overwhelming!

Why did you choose Casa Blanca Tropical House for your wedding?

We wanted to have a small intimate garden wedding. One of my favourite movies was Father of the Bride – I liked the idea of having a wedding at a house with all the craziness that comes with that. The house and garden were just perfect.

What did you do for your hens and bucks?

Hens – Black and white themed party at the house two nights before the wedding

DIY Details

My mum helped a lot – we made the table numbers which were not numbers but names of flowers. That was in memory of my Grandmother who’s middle name was Iris. My brother handmade all the invitations and he and his girlfriend were our wedding band. They learned and practiced 20 special songs and played them throughout the night.

Key Styling Inspiration

Elegant but a little bit rustic.

Where did you splurge and where did you save on your wedding?

We plunged on the photographer. I have had too many friends not happy with their wedding photos so Stephie at Peppermint Lane was a must for me! The dress and Christian Louboutin shoes. Andrew and I agreed that food and drink was important and could make or break a good party.

We saved on getting ready and having wedding and reception in one location. It meant no expensive car hire.

What gifts did you give your guests?

Local coffee and tea.

What was the funniest moment of the day?

Our location photo shoot – we just had a ball.

What was the most special memory from the day?

Dancing with my friends family and new husband while my little brother and his lady played our favourite songs.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

Chilled out at the house.

Special thanks to…

My brother and Jess, both our parents who worked so hard, our bridal party and their partners for all being so helpful and easy to work with.

What advice would you give other brides-to-be?

Delegate! Remember that you are stuck in a room getting ready for hours so you need someone to make sure everything is running smoothly. Plan and then relax and enjoy – it only happens once, savour every moment.
