Real Wedding: Jennifer and James

Having first met as the maid of honour and best man of mutual friends, Jennifer Gale and James Fleming made their own ‘I do’ memories at a gorgeous April celebration. With family in Sydney and Brisbane the pair eventually settled on the Sunshine Coast, as “we thought it would be nice for everyone to have a bit of a holiday that weekend.” We adore Jennifer’s Karen Willis Holmes gown almost as much as we love the nautical styling touches and chic white palette. That cake!

How did you meet?

We met through mutual friends who were getting married. We were both in the bridal party for these friends as the maid of honour and the best man.  At the time we were living in different states so only met for the first time at the wedding.

Tell us about the proposal…

James took me to a very fancy French restaurant which is where he took me for our first ‘fancy’ date when I moved states to be with him.  We were sitting there chatting and he pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him.  It was like the rest of the world vanished and it was just the two of us in the restaurant.  An incredible time in both our lives.

What did you do for your hens and bucks nights?

Hens night was in Sydney (as that’s where my family is) and we had a night tea at my parents house with a beauty therapist who did our nails.  Then we went out to Jamie’s Italian for a wonderful dinner.  After dinner we went on to a few bars in Sydney.

Bucks was in Brisbane.  The boys went for dinner at the Bavarian Beer Hall on Eagle Street Pier and then later went to the Pig and Whistle.

Why did you choose your Ebb Waterfront for your wedding?

We chose the location as we were tossing up whether to get married in Sydney or Brisbane.  We then decided that it would be nice for everyone to have a bit of a holiday that weekend, so decided on the Sunshine Coast.  We found Ebb in a magazine and fell in love with it as soon as we saw it.

Key Styling Inspiration

As a designer myself I like for things to go together, but the main inspiration came from my husband James.  He is a keen sailor and bike rider so we thought what would be better than tying the two together. So once we had those 2 elements, everything else just fell into place.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

We were to Koh Samui in Thailand for 11 nights and Singapore for some well deserved shopping for three nights.

Any advice for other brides-to-be?

I think that the best piece of advice I was given was to not worry about the minor details (which I know is easier said than done). But on the day you will not notice them at all, and it does make the lead up much easier if you aren’t worried about the tiniest thing that no one will notice.
