How did you meet?

We first met at a mutual friend’s house party, it was lust at first sight! I walked past Dan and he made it very clear that he was interested in me! We enjoyed the night dancing and drinking with friends.

Tell us about the proposal…

We went to Melbourne for the weekend to celebrate my 25th birthday. On the second day Daniel told me he had a surprise and we would be staying somewhere else for the night. After a 45 minute trip out of the city, we arrived at the Balinese Spa Retreat. It was tucked away in the most beautiful setting, it was very romantic and relaxing. We had a delicious meal overlooking the gardens and fountains and Dan popped the question just before dessert! We finished the evening with Champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries in the spa and the weekend was topped off with a couples massage the next morning.

Why did you choose InterContinental Sanctuary Cove for your wedding?

We wanted our guests to relax and enjoy the day and part of this was choosing a venue that could hold the ceremony and reception. We were really impressed by the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove and loved the style of the hotel, chapel and reception room.

The chapel is set amongst the beautiful hotel gardens with floor to ceiling glass overlooking the Coomera river. Our reception was held in ‘The Grange’ which is also set amongst the hotel gardens and has the ambience of a manor with its timber floors, chandelier and rustic furnishings.

What did you do for your hens and bucks?

Being the control freak that I am, I actually planned my own hens night along with a close friend! I thought that if I knew what I was doing then I would have a great night…and I did! I actually ended up having more of a hens long weekend as I booked a few nights at the Meriton apartments in Broadbeach. The Friday night my bridesmaids and I went to Dracula’s with friends. The Saturday night was the main hens night event, the theme was ‘Little Black Dress’ and my fellow hens organiser, bridesmaids, mother and mother-in-law did a great job decorating the apartment in pink and black. We enjoyed pink fruity punch, nibbles and dessert along with fun games, some ‘cheeky entertainment’ and then out to Broadbeach to dance the night away.

Dan went deep sea fishing on the Gold Coast during the day and enjoyed a night out in Brisbane drinking with friends.

DIY Details

My cousin (one of my bridesmaids) and I designed and created our seating plan. We also created the name place cards and attached these to the bombonniere with a ribbon bow.

We offered guests complimentary thongs as dancing shoes! We bought the shoes, a basket to place them in and my husband Dan made a cute ‘Dancing Shoes’ sign in our wedding colours!

Key Styling Inspiration

Our wedding theme was glamorous, romantic and fun! Bridal magazines and Pinterest came in very handy in the research of our wedding styling.

We combined the colours of light coral salmon, pale pink, white, silver and light grey with white satin, crystals, roses and candlelight.

We chose to have an elegant, formal wedding. It was so nice to see all of our friends and family dressed up and you could really tell that everyone felt great on the day.

Where did you splurge and where did you save on your wedding?

We splurged on our wedding photography package, the venue package and room decoration.

We saved on our DIY touches – the seating plan and name place cards. Our celebrant was a previous work friend so we saved on that too!

What gifts did you give your guests?

Bride and groom-themed love heart bottle opener and stopper. We also bought jars for each table and filled them with a selection of pink and white heart wedding candy for guests.

What was the funniest moment of the day?

There were many moments of laughter during the day, I would have to say that the funniest moment was the best man’s speech at our evening reception. Our best man Will has been friends with Dan since they were young and it was great to listen to some of his funny stories from the past of them growing up together.

What was the most special memory from the day?

Walking down the aisle – I was so calm, cool and collected and the minute my husband turned around I just lost it, the emotion I felt was like nothing I’ve ever experienced!

Photos with the bridal party – we really made the most of our time and had so much fun! We had photos taken around the hotel grounds and around Sanctuary Cove. We even stopped in at one of the bars at the Marina, had shots, took selfies with the photographer and practiced our dance skills!

What did you for your honeymoon?

We had the most amazing honeymoon! We travelled around the US for a month, flying firstly to LA followed by Vegas, San Fran and Charlotte. We hired a car from Charlotte for a bit of a road trip down the east coast visiting many places including Charleston, Savannah and DisneyWorld before arriving in South Beach, Miami. We then hopped on-board a cruise around the Caribbean (this was the relaxing part of our holiday!) We then flew to New Orleans and finished our trip in our favourite city, New York.

Special thanks to…

Our parents for their support, our bridal party for their help, our family that travelled to be a part of our special day and overall for our friends and family that made our day an unforgettable one! Thank you to all our vendors and suppliers.

What advice would you give other brides-to-be?

Stick to your vision, don’t let friends and family have too much influence. You can’t please everyone and you want to be able to say ‘it was my perfect day’.
