But for Megan and Todd it led them to having their dream wedding and reception at The Summit Restaurant on picturesque Mt Coot-tha. The couple celebrated their love for each other in a touching ceremony and enjoyed a relaxed reception with friends and family.

How did you meet?

We met while out at a local pub, we exchanged numbers, spoke for awhile and hit it off so we decided to go to a local restaurant on our first official date and the rest is history.

Tell us about the proposal…

We both really enjoy our outdoor activities and often go on a hike in the bushland near Mt Coot-tha. One August morning Todd decided he really wanted to go on a hike together. Towards the end of the walk Todd stopped by a waterfall and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes.

Why did you choose The Summit Restaurant for your wedding?

Unfortunately we were having issues with another venue we had already booked. Unrelated, we went to The Summit for dinner one night to celebrate our anniversary and fell in love with the view, service and food. When we were looking for a new venue it was really important to have an elegant feel and we wanted something that wasn’t just ‘a room’. After going back and meeting with the events team we knew straight away we wanted to have our wedding there and changed. We thought it was great that we could fit our guests comfortably and have separate areas for dancing, sitting and our lolly buffet that was still in the one room. Ultimately though the girls in the functions and event team really made us feel assured that everything would be taken care of on the night. They were fast to respond to any questions we had, were accommodating and super helpful.

What did you do for your hens and bucks?

For the hens, we had pole dancing lessons, it was a great way to start the day, get everyone laughing at themselves and was heaps of fun! We then had an apartment in Brisbane City were we had some dinner, drinks and played games before heading out for the night. For the Bucks, the boys went to paintball, followed by an inflatable waterpark and ended the night at an apartment up the coast with drinks.

DIY Details

All the stationary was DIY – invitations, placecards, and thankyou cards. The lolly buffet was also completely organised by the mother-of-the-groom.

Key Styling Inspiration?

We wanted a classic garden inspired theme. We had a garden ceremony and wanted to carry the theme into the reception so we had flower centrepieces and candles to fill the room. All our floral arrangements were a mix of pinks and whites. The view from The Summit really creates a romantic and elegant environment so it didn’t take a lot of decorations for the room to look amazing.

Where did you splurge and where did you save on your wedding?

We splurged on the main and key components of the day that were important to us – the wedding dresses, flowers, venue and photographer. We tried to do the other things ourselves, such as stationary and cars. We decided to go home after the wedding instead of to a hotel room and our ceremony venue was very affordable yet still beautiful.

What gifts did you give your guests?

We decided to have the lolly buffet for our guests as a gift and a take home bag at the end of the night. It was a huge hit and we are very glad we choose to do that. Our guests really appreciated it and comments on how beautiful, yummy and different it was.

What was the funniest moment of the day?

The father of the bride luckily has a great friendship with one of our bridesmaids, because during his speech, there was a joke made at her expense. She took it like a champion but the entire room exploded into laughter for a good minute

What was the most special moment from the day?

We really enjoyed the “first look” before our ceremony. It gave us time alone together for our photographs before the ceremony which was really special. Honestly though the entire day from start to finish was amazing though. We loved being surrounded by all our loved ones, friends and family.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

We went to Mexico for a week and then spent three weeks on the west coast of the USA.

A very big thanks to Ryll who preformed a miracle on my wedding gown after my first alterations left me not fitting into the dress. And of course our family and friends, The Summit Restaurant, and all our suppliers who worked together seamlessly on the day!

What advice would you give other brides-to-be?

The day goes so quickly so take a few moments to just stop and look around and absorb everything. Enjoy every little moment! I was overly organised during the planning stages with one spreadsheet containing all the supplier details, seating plan, schedule and dietary requirements on it which really helped everyone involved come together and make the day run really smoothly.
