Bride

Real Wedding: Shelly & Rob

  |

There’s a number of reasons why we’re smitten with this couple, but to save time we’ll share three:

1. The pair became engaged in the most beautifully sentimental way… Rob took Shelly on a late afternoon drive to his parents farm and pulled over to the same spot where he revealed six years earlier that he was falling in love with her and it was in that same spot he proposed.

2. If their pictures are anything to go by, it’s clear getting married was a happy memory.  Shelly recalls her most special memory from the day, “seeing Rob trying so hard not to cry not just when I arrived but during the whole ceremony – he has such a big heart.”

3. The bride’s infectious, beaming smile.

We could go on but we’d rather you take a look at their magical day. QB x

How did you meet?

After just missing each other at all the same places for years, we got pushed together on a dance floor by a mutual friend.

Tell us about the proposal…

Rob took me on a late afternoon drive out to his parents farm. He pulled over to the same spot he told me he was falling in love with me 6 years earlier and proposed.

Why did you choose The Landing at Dockside for your wedding?

Convenience for our wedding party (we live in Townsville) and guests. There’s also something idyllic about being near the water and the beautiful Story Bridge.

What did you do for your hens and bucks?

My first hen’s was a stunning high tea at Customs House followed by a hilarious evening with my closest girlfriends, family and in-laws of games and Champagne. I had a second surprise hen’s in Townsville from my work friends at a Pole Party which was just as fun but more painful..

Rob had a bucks two nights before the wedding with the best man I had never met! But they all survived after some salsa dancing and a VIP booth at a nightclub in the city.

DIY Details

I made 60 different jars for the tables numbers and flowers from twine, lace and ribbon and one of my wonderful bridesmaid’s Nicki made 50+ crepe paper pom poms.

Key Styling Inspiration

Twine. I’m obsessed with it so I just searched anything to do with it in Pinterest!

Where did you splurge and where did you save on your wedding?

I splurged on the dress and the venue. We wanted good food, good wine and somewhere with a nice atmosphere.

We saved on the decorations! Less really is more we kept it simple and it looked beautiful.

What gifts did you give your guests?

Homemade Russian caramel and marshmallow.

What was the funniest moment of the day?

Either getting ready to walk into the ceremony and seeing two of our friends try to sneak in late with their hands over their eyes so they didn’t see me first! Or at the end of a dance which was “family tradition” I completely forgot I had a hoop on under my skirt and fell over!

What was the most special memory from the day?

Seeing Rob trying so hard not to cry not just when I arrived but during the whole ceremony. He has such a big heart.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

Rob surprised me with a two week trip to Vietnam and Cambodia! It was fantastic.

Special thanks to…

Mum and Dad for letting their last daughter go, my gorgeous bridesmaids Chantelle and Nicki for being with me whenever I needed, my sister Han and beautiful friend Stace for setting up on the day (lifesavers) and my oldest friend Tameeka for her sweet reading.

What advice would you give future brides-to-be?

Remember who your wedding is for. If he doesn’t want to help organise don’t take it personally – he is a guy, just give him say in the important things. Appreciate the lead up just as much as the day. Write down every idea you have. Plan and delegate! Don’t let it go too fast! We had only the most special people to us there so we could spend genuine time together and by the end of the night we were content.
