Real Wedding: Stephanie and Nathan

It was all about island elegance for Stephanie and Nathan. A small, intimate wedding on Hamilton Island was simply magical, while the bride’s luxurious Karen Willis Holmes gown certainly caught our eye with its alluring shimmer. Surrounded by the ones they loved – all whom travelled the distance to celebrate with the pair – it was a day these newlyweds would never forget.

How did you meet?

At a social event. I caught him smiling at me across the room and thought he was looking at someone else, but then he came over and introduced himself. We hit it off from the start and the rest just flowed.

Tell us about the proposal…

Nathan proposed on Hamilton Island as we have always enjoyed travelling to the island for holidays. We both love the beach and the outdoors and he took me up to One Tree Hill one evening, got down on one knee and presented me with a beautiful ring.

Why did you choose Hamilton Island for your wedding?

Hamilton Island was an easy choice for us. We both don’t like a fuss and wanted a small, intimate wedding. We both love the beach and island holidays have always been a favourite of ours. Once we discovered Hamilton Island we fell in love with the beautiful turquoise water, scenery and relaxed island vibe. It made sense to share our special day with our closest friends and family in one of our favourite places to travel.

Key Styling Inspiration

I loved the bridesmaid dresses. They had a beautiful grecian feel about them and were a peach, coral colour. Once we found these, the decorating and flowers reflected these colours, which all tied in nicely with the island theme.

Where did you splurge and where did you save on your wedding?

I splurged on the wedding dress. I wanted my dress to be really special, as I love fashion. I wanted to feel comfortable, elegant and feminine on the day.

Nathan’s uncle is a cake maker and decorator for special occasions and we were lucky enough to have him supply the cake.

What gifts did you give your guests?

The ladies received a candle each and the guys cigars.

What was the funniest moment of the day?

I think trying to keep my balance while walking along the infinity pool edges to get a great snap. I said to Nath at the time that if I fall in he’s coming with me and we’d both walk into the reception drenched.

What was the most special memory from the day?

Nathan’s toast. I will never forget what he said. You don’t get moments like that everyday which are shared with all the people you love the most. Standing with my dad outside the church before walking down the aisle and him trying to make me laugh was also pretty special.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

We stayed on Hamilton Island finishing off our trip at the spectacular qualia resort.

Special thanks to…

Our friends and family. It meant so much that they travelled so far to celebrate with us.

What advice would you give other brides-to-be?

Keep it simple. The day comes and goes so quickly so try and enjoy every moment. Focus on your taste and style so the event is a reflection of you both.
