6-12 MONTHS BEFORE

CEREMONY

❍  Service – Decide on type of ceremony; book celebrant.

❍  Music – Liaise with musicians/soloist/live band; book.

❍  Rings – Start looking at wedding bands; try on different styles with your engagement ring.

❍  Transport – Discuss transport options.

❍  Flowers – Begin flower research; view bouquet designs and flower preservation options.

❍  Photography – View the work of a number of photographers and videographers.

 

RECEPTION

❍  Reception – Start a venue and menu brochure collection; visit the best ones and book your favourite.

❍  Speeches – Choose MC & speakers; notify each person of their duties.

❍  Cakes – Begin the hunt for the perfect wedding confection.

❍  Music – Book DJ/band.

❍  Decorations – Design decorating theme for reception.

❍  Guests – Decide number of guests; draft invitation list with fiance and parents. Send ‘Save the date’ cards if using.

WEDDING NIGHT

❍  Decide where you want to spend this special night.

 

HONEYMOON

❍  Discuss preferences; visit travel agents; create a budget.

 

YOU

❍  The Gown – Look at magazines and visit bridal salons; choose design; book designer/dressmaker.

❍  Body Care – Begin fitness programme and stick to it!

❍  Hair and Face – Discuss hairstyles and makeup with wedding experts.

4-6 MONTHS BEFORE

CEREMONY

❍  Service – Lodge marriage documents; pay deposit on venue.

❍  Music – Choose hymns/music and readings; print ‘Order of service’ sheets.

❍  Rings – Order rings.

❍  Transport – Book cars/horse and carriage etc; get costs in writing and note license plates.

❍  Flowers – Decide on and book florist; choose flowers for bridal party – bouquets, buttonholes, corsages.

❍  Photography – Book your chosen wedding expert.

 

RECEPTION

❍  Reception – Confirm menus and alcohol.

❍  Speeches – Start preparing speeches to be delivered on the day.

❍  Cakes – Finalise cake design; decide on designer; book.

❍  Music – Start thinking about music to accompany the bridal waltz, cake cutting and tossing of the bridal bouquet and garter.

❍  Decorations – Decide on and organise floral arrangements and any other decorations (candles etc.)

❍  Guests – Order invitations and placecards; organise gift register if desired.

 

WEDDING NIGHT

❍  Book accommodation and getaway car.

 

HONEYMOON

❍  Make all bookings; organise travel insurance, passports and visas if necessary.

 

YOU

❍  The Gown – Finalise design, choose fabrics.

❍  Body Care – Consider some sort of relaxation therapy, e.g. yoga,Tai Chi, meditation.

❍  Hair and Face – Eat well and drink plenty of water; book hairstylist and beautician for the day.

1 MONTH BEFORE

CEREMONY

❍  Service – Write vows; choose speakers for readings; organise rehearsal.

❍  Music – Confirm musicians and music; supply sheet music if necessary.

❍  Rings – Engrave rings (if desired); organise ring pillow (if desired).

❍  Transport – Confirm transport arrangements and arrival times.

❍  Flowers – Organise flowers for church/ceremony venue; consider using some to double as reception decorations.

❍  Photography – Discuss desired shots and locations with photographer; organise reception photography if ceremony photographer is not staying.

 

RECEPTION

❍  Reception – Confirm guest numbers and determine seating plan.

❍  Speeches – Rehearse speeches.

❍  Cakes – Order cake boxes.

❍  Music – Give musicians/DJ a list of special requests (including any songs you don’t want!); practise bridal waltz.

❍  Decorations – Organise vases, candle holders etc. for venue; finalise all other accoutrements.

❍  Guests – Send out invitations (at least six weeks prior); keep a close eye on RSVPs.

 

WEDDING NIGHT

❍  Confirm reservations and any special deals or services for newlyweds.

 

HONEYMOON

❍  Visit your doctor and dentist and organise any shots or medication; buy travellers cheques if going overseas.

 

YOU

❍  The Gown – Have fittings, choose accessories.

❍  Body Care –  Ease off on intense exercise.

❍  Hair and Face –  Book hair and makeup trials.

1 WEEK BEFORE

CEREMONY

❍ Service – Ensure celebrant has copy of vows; have rehearsal.

❍ Music – Make sure all musicians and ushers have ‘Order of service’ sheets.

❍ Rings – Pick up rings from jeweller; give to best man (leave this until last minute to ensure their safety.)

❍ Transport – Confirm transport arrangements and arrival times.

❍ Flowers – Confirm delivery of flowers; ensure vases, stands etc. are onsite.

❍ Photography – Confirm details of desired snaps and video footage.

 

RECEPTION

❍  Reception – Organise delivery of place cards and seating plan to venue; confirm all decorations.

❍  Speeches – Give order of events to MC; vet other people’s speeches if necessary!

❍  Cakes – Confirm cake delivery.

❍  Music – Confirm music arrangements.

❍  Decorations – Confirm colours of tablecloths and placing of decorations.

❍  Guests – Finetune seating plan; keep a record of gifts received and send thankyou notes.

WEDDING NIGHT

 ❍  Pack and organise delivery of luggage to wedding night suite.

 

HONEYMOON

❍  Pack & organise delivery of luggage to honeymoon suite; confirm all travel arrangements three days before departure.

 

YOU

❍  The Gown – Have a final fitting, complete with all accessories.

❍  Body Care – Think of your workout time as respite from wedding madness!

❍  Hair and Face – Book pedicure and manicures; have facial and deep tissue massage.
