Things we’ve seen and loved: July 2017

Yep, that’s right. There goes another month… but that means another month of trends and beautiful stories! To give you the warm and fuzzies (which you may or may not need this Queensland winter), here are some things we’ve seen and loved this July in the wonderful world of weddings…

Tree polaroid displays

We’re kind of obsessed with polaroids (give us that sweet, sweet flattering lighting!) and they make brilliant wedding favours! So naturally (pun intended), we were all over this outdoorsy polaroid display. Display your favourite photos of you both, or leave the twine bare with cute little pegs and ask guests to attach their happy snaps throughout the day.

This backup wedding cake… from Woolworths

Sourced via

We absolutely fell in love with this story! When Townsville bride Jade Neil was left without a wedding cake on her wedding day her amazing sisters-in-law and family friend raced to the nearest Woolworths, and created one impressive replacement cake. Using three Woolworths mud cakes, pre-made Betty Crocker icing, fresh flowers and one of Jade’s hessian cutlery holders, the women saved the day with this utterly delicious creation. Who doesn’t love a Woollies mud cake?

Wedding banners

Classic and whimsical, this trend is a gorgeous way to add a little personality to your big day. Display a favourite quote, a line from your vows or a cheeky theme-related pun for something a little unique.

History’s most stunning engagement shoot

Sourced via

This is quite possibly our most favourite wedding-related thing ever. When this couple became engaged, they celebrated with an engagement shoot complete with unicorns, Casio watches, stone wash denim and a glowy, dreamlike filter. Yes, they meant for it to look that way (check out what they normally look like here). Take a look at the full gallery here with all its 80s fabulousness and, seriously, you need to read the comments. Two words – couple goals.

Storybook Cosmetics’ rose makeup brushes

RESTOCK ALERT! ❤️ . Tomorrow at 2:00pm (CST) . Available ONLY at

A post shared by @storybookcosmetics on

That’s right, The Bachelor is back and we’re really digging roses (figuratively). Known for their fairytale inspired cosmetics, cult favourite Storybook Cosmetics have restocked their super-popular rose makeup brushes – the perfect bride tribe gift, no? Yes, we will accept this rose. We’ll accept a whole bouquet, please.

Give it up for Piggy Smalls!

Time for another Queensland real wedding story. When this Gold Coast couple were planning their wedding, they decided to include a special VIP guest – their 100kg pet pig, Piggy Smalls. That name… that cute face… that flower crown! We need this wedding to happen already. Like, yesterday.

Buttercream for days…

Okay, we’re not even sure what you’d call this technique, but can we please just take a moment to appreciate the layering of the buttercream on this cake? Swirl-like and oh-so pretty, the buttercream on this cake has to be some kind of confectionary wizardry.

Ziad Nakad Autumn-Fall 2017/2018 couture collection

It’s no secret that we fell head over heels for this collection when Ziad Nakad showcased it on the runway of Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture. Featuring dazzling embellishment and romantic silhouttes, the collection is probably one of the most beautiful we’ve ever seen – no exaggeration! See the full gallery of dresses here.

This Wizard of Oz proposal

Inspired by his girlfriend’s love of The Wizard of Oz, this USA man dressed up as the Tin Man and gave her his heart in an incredibly charming proposal. During a tour at Land of Oz, he got down on one knee and popped the question when a ‘wizard’ asked him if there was anyone he wanted to give his heart to. Awwww! Spoiler alert: she said yes.

For the edgy bride…

How rock ‘n roll are these skull double wall glass cups? Imagine sipping coffee out of one of these bad boys while getting ready for the ceremony – it’d be sure to make for some cool pics! Remember – if it’s hot, don’t skull it. We had to.
