We Can’t Stop Swooning Over This Lighting Shoot

  |

In the hushed twilight, a magical styling story begins to unfold. Festoons of fairy lights and Edison bulbs, decadent chandeliers, perfectly-placed pendants and delicate tea lights transpire to create an illuminated wedding wonderland. A rustic-industrial backdrop comes into its own with dramatic shadow play as the beautiful night birds come out to play.

Create a magical reception atmosphere – and help your photographer achieve amazing low-light photographs, with ambient lighting. Here Marcus from Studio Impressions used the soft natural light at dusk to enhance the gold tones of the styling, then as night fell used a little added professional lighting to highlight our bride’s face and bring out the detail in the gown and headpiece. A careful balance in the use of camera settings and light settings is needed when shooting in changing light or dark conditions. Choosing a photographer who has knowledge of both natural light and professional lighting setups will ensure your photos reflect the warmth of your wedding.

Gorgeous Gowns

White Lily Couture dressed our bewitching bride in a range of divine designs including this knockout Enzoani creation with Chrysalini headpiece, a tulle and French lace Augusta Jones gown (XO light boxes) and a Pronovias ballgown with Chrysalini accessories (green wall). A beguiling beauty look by Kylie Eustace completed the picture.

Styled To Perfection

”With so many creative options available, setting the perfect ambient light for your wedding is a key styling element,” says Brendan from Styled Events. We love the way he juxtaposed these rustic-industrial backdrops with luxe lighting – combining the golden tones of crystal chandeliers with baroque sequinned statement furniture then showcasing how bold event letters and symbols can really add impact (great idea for a photo booth area). “For a dramatic ceremony backdrop we combined our versatile green walls with masses of festoon lighting complemented by on-trend geometric spheres,” Brendan explains. “Extra twinkle was achieved with suspended light bulb silhouettes with internal tea lights.”

Light On

“Ambient lighting creates a magical atmosphere for your guests – and it can help your photographer achieve amazing images in low-light situations,” says Marcus from Studio Impressions Photography. “Here we used the soft natural light at dusk to enhance the gold tones of the styling, then as night fell added a little professional lighting to highlight Sophie’s face and bring out gown details.” An expert balance in the use of camera and light settings is needed when shooting in changing conditions like these. “Choosing a photographer who has knowledge of both natural light and professional lighting setups will ensure your photos reflect the warmth of your wedding,” Marcus recommends.
