Just Married: Ashleigh + Tony

  |

Whether you’d like to admit it or not, as a teenager you probably dreamed about meeting the perfect boy at the school dance, falling in love and living happily ever after. For a lot of us, that fantasy remained just that, a fantasy but for Brisbane newlyweds, Ashleigh Millard and Tony Davison, their high school dream became a reality.

After Tony first asked Ashleigh to be his girlfriend while seeing a movie (followed by a fist pump when she said yes, of course), the cinemas became a big part of their lives, and the proposal followed the cinematic theme. A love note led Ashleigh to a private function room at Gold Class cinemas filled with candles and her husband to be waiting to ask her to be with him forever. “Our proposal truly felt like something out of a movie. Pure magic!” says Ashleigh.

Naturally, after waiting nearly ten years for their wedding day, Ashleigh was eager to begin planning and says she enjoyed every minute of it. “I had always dreamt of a big luxe white wedding, and the chandeliers and white backdrop at Victoria Park Golf Course meant that it was the perfect place, to fulfill this dream,” says Ashleigh.

Ashleigh says it was all the little unexpected moments that made the day truly special – like her 83-year-old grandmother travelling all the way from South Africa to the wedding, by herself! Now that’s dedication!

Regular wedding speeches can sometimes drag on and be a bit boring right? Ashleigh decided to surprise her guests by changing the words to her favourite Eminem song and making her speech into a rap! The surprises didn’t end there, Ashleigh’s mum and new husband had secretly planned a video for her. It was the only part of the wedding she didn’t know about! “My mum and I are extremely close, so a montage of our favourite memories from baby until now was just so touching!” Were a couple of tears shed? Absolutely but it is something that neither Ashleigh nor her mum will ever forget.

The funniest moment for Ashleigh was when a normally very shy Tony came out of his shell for the garter toss. Ashleigh says that “Tony ‘trying’ to get my garter from under my big poofy dress while dancing was interesting, to say the least. I’m glad we got that on camera or our kids one day would probably never believe how the moment unfolded!”

Planning a wedding is all about careful decision making. Ashleigh’s biggest tip for future brides is to pick a few items to splurge on, and some to save on. For them, the splurge was on the flowers and monogram dance floor, and they chose to save on their stationery which Tony designed himself.
