Why You’ll Love A City Wedding

Locking in a venue is one of the important and exciting wedding decisions you’ll make. It will help set the tone for your entire celebration and play host to the really important bit – the party! Brisbane’s inner city and South Bank precinct is a favourite destination for a city wedding among Queensland brides, and here are just a few reasons why…

Venue Variety
From historic clubs imbued with traditional elegance to chic reception spaces where you can create a big party atmosphere, the city has it all. If top notch food and wine is a priority, you’ll also find award-winning restaurants perfect for an intimate soiree as well as grand hotels boasting river views and luxe accommodations. And look out for the hidden gems. Down the lane ways and tucked away along the riverfront you’ll also discover atmospheric destinations and venues with an awesome outlook. Make a day of it and check out what this area has to offer – you’ll have no shortage of coffee shops, cafes and restaurants to help fuel your journey.

The Buzz
There is something exciting about being in the middle of the hustle and bustle. Even though your venue will be a romantic haven where style and service come first, outside the city will be buzzing. Walking through the streets or along the riverfront, with cars and boats zipping past, your photographer (and most likely, curious tourists) snapping pictures, and locals giving you the thumbs up, certainly creates a sense of anticipation and fun.

Great For Guests
Stay and play is the name of the game in the city. Big name hotels and smaller boutique retreats offer plenty of options for you and your out-of-town guests to relax and recharge before and after the big day. It will also position your party close to the action when it comes to actually travelling to and from the wedding with most venues within walking distance of accommodation. There is also a wealth of hair and beauty experts right in the city centre so your guests can pop in for a blow dry before the big day.

Backdrops Galore
The CBD is home to countless historic buildings and modern monoliths which look amazing with you poised in front of them. Contrast your gorgeous gown against raw elements like ageing brick walls, industrial work sites and busy streets or look for sleek mirrored surfaces and dramatic skyscrapers. For a breathe of fresh air, head to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens for its beautiful landscape of trees and shady riverfront or the Roma Street Parklands for its charming topiary garden and rainforest. Slightly further afield we also love the charismatic Teneriffe wool stores and the soaring spectacle that is the Brisbane Powerhouse in New Farm.Your photographer will know all the top spots (and a few secret ones) so chat to them about the styles you like.

The In Between Bits
The hours between the ceremony and reception (usually when you’re getting your photos taken) and the days before and after the big I do can leave guests looking for a distraction. The city has plenty on offer, from traversing the river by City Cat or paddle boat and seeing the skyline from the top of the Brisbane Eye to world- class exhibitions at GOMA and retail therapy in the Queen Street Mall.

The Honeymoon
For a luxe urban honeymoon, Brisbane is ideal. It’s also a great jumping off point for the beaches and hinterland of the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.
