Follow these expert tips for capturing flawless engagement photos.

The engagement shoot wears many hats: romantic memento, photographer trial, and even a makeup test run. Once you’ve selected the perfect photographer, ask if an engagement shoot can be part of your wedding package. They’ll also help you zoom in on the perfect location and style, whether it be a sentimental locale, a jaw-dropping urban setting, or a wish-list backdrop. According to most photographers, the ideal time for photography is either in the evening or early morning to capture the beautiful and warm colours of sunrise and sunset.

An engagement shoot is the perfect way to celebrate you and your partner and the journey you’re taking together. It’s a chance to connect with your photographer and ensure you feel comfortable in front of the camera. We like to think of them as the insurance for your big day.

Engagement Photo Shoot Tips

  • We allow 1 – 1.5 hours for an engagement shoot. An hour is usually plenty, but some locations have walking involved.
  • If possible, plan your makeup & hair trial for the same day to test how your bridal look will be worn and photographed.
  • We suggest brides wear their hair down, as it looks more casual and relaxed, but it’s up to you!
  • Heels often photograph best (depending on your location) but it’s essential to bring flats so you’re comfortable for walking.
  • If you’d like to try a couple of different looks, bring a change of clothes, and swap halfway through.
  • We recommend hanging men’s shirts, linen, and easily crushed fabric until you arrive.
  • To avoid stress and rushing, arrive at least 15 minutes early. This allows for traffic, time to get dressed and the chance to calm any pre-shoot nerves.
  • Looking for something special to add to your photos? Why not bring some Champagne? Or pack a picnic to share for a fun, romantic touch.
