Wedding date: 9 August 2019  // Number of guests: 70

QB: All good love stories start somewhere; tell us how and when you met:
Matt and I met through the Tinder dating app 5 years ago. Neither of us had been on a Tinder date before, so it was a first for both of us. Upon arriving at the cinema, I was looking down at my phone to find Matt and walked straight into an automatic door and smacked my head. I then felt the need to share this with Matt shortly after meeting as a bit of an ice breaker.  I still to this day have never seen Matt so nervous. We went for Mexican food after the movie and walked around Kangaroo Point cliffs which has an amazing view of Brisbane city lit up at night. That’s where we had our first kiss, and we were pretty much officially dating from there.

QB:  Tell us about your lives together:
Matt and I are both pretty academic, he is a Chemical Engineer, and I am a Psychologist. We are both very driven with regards to our careers. In our spare time, we like to keep fit, be outdoors, scuba dive, travel, binge watch Netflix series, cook together, try new things, and we always make time for date nights.

QB:  What does marriage mean to you:
Marriage means making a lifelong commitment of unconditional love to your partner.

QB: Make us laugh, make us cry: who proposed to who, and how:
Matt emailed me at work and suggested we do date night that evening, I agreed and didn’t think too much of it. We got take away sushi from our favourite place and had a picnic at Kangaroo Point cliffs (where we had our first kiss on our first date), and Matt got down on one knee, in front of the beautiful Brisbane city lit up at night, and asked me to marry him. I was incredibly shocked and said “Oh my god” for about 5 minutes before responding yes!

QB: How and why did you choose your venues?
Gabbinbar Homestead – Gabbinbar has so much character in the one venue. You have the romantic pavilion, the woods, the beautiful gardens, the lights throughout the trees at night, and then the beautiful vintage homestead with multiple rooms. It is so romantic and has endless possibilities for photographs. During our first visit at Gabbinbar, about 10 minutes into the tour, Matt and I looked at each other and said: “We are getting married here!”.

QB:  What was the inspiration behind your wedding style:
We found a lot of inspiration from the venue itself, classic, vintage, and romantic. The Anna Campbell dress fitted in so well with venue as well. Matt and I are hopeless romantics, and we felt that Gabbinbar Homestead really captured that.

QB:  Did you incorporate any traditions or perhaps do something a little different:
I was very close to my grandparents who sadly passed away. They would have loved to have been there on the day. So I had this pendant made, which was a photograph of my grandparents on their wedding day, and pinned it to my bouquet so that they could in some way be there with me.

QB: Were there any standout suppliers:
Our photographer – Luke Middlemiss, that guy is seriously talented. We are so so happy with all of our wedding suppliers, they each played a huge role in making our day so special.

QB: Do you have any words of wisdom to offer other couples:
Decide what is most important to you for your wedding day and plan/prioritise from there. For us, having an amazing venue and photographer were important, so we made sure we invested in those areas. Also, remember the purpose of the day, you are marrying the love of your life, don’t get caught up in minor details and lose sight of what is important.

QB:  Did you (or will you) enjoy a honeymoon? If so, how and why did you choose your destination:
We are going on our honeymoon at the end of this year. We are doing 5 weeks in Europe, our longest trip together yet. We wanted to pick a big trip before settling down to save for a house.  We wanted romance, fun, and adventure, Europe encompasses all of those qualities. Matt has never been to where I am from (England), so having Christmas there with my family will be very special for us.

QB:  Please share any other details: We did a fully choreographed first dance to Elvis Presley: Can’t help falling in love. I walked down the aisle to Kodaline: The One
