Some love stories unfold slowly. Others stretch across borders, years, and time zones. And then there are those like Jenny and Quoc-Han’s: an extraordinary decade-long journey that somehow feels both wildly unlikely and completely meant to be. While they were legally married in Florida in 2023 and celebrated with Quoc’s family in California in 2024, this Australian wedding was their long-awaited chance to share the joy with Jenny’s side of the family and friends in Brisbane. It’s a celebration of love, reunion, and everything that has made their journey so remarkable.

There was no cinematic knee-drop moment, and after five years of long-distance, which stretched into eight when COVID closed borders, practicality led them to marry so they could begin the U.S. visa process. When Australia reopened in 2022, Jenny flew to the U.S. to reunite with Quoc-Han, and his parents travelled to Australia to formally ask her parents for her hand. “It wasn’t traditional, but it was so us,” she says. Their legal marriage took place in Florida in 2023, followed by a tea ceremony with Quoc-Han’s family in California in 2024, and finally—third time lucky—their Australian wedding in October 2025 with Jenny’s family and Brisbane friends.

The day began with a private vow exchange at Evergreen Studio with just ten close loved ones. “We never got to share vows at our legal wedding,” says Jenny. Helena, the host, curated a serene, intimate experience that became the emotional anchor of the day. From there, everyone moved to The Glasshouse at The Island for the main celebration with 160 guests. Two moments stood out: Quoc-Han’s vows, not drafted until two days before but perfectly sweet and funny, and a first dance dedicated to their conservative families. They invited parents and friends onto the floor for 60 Years of Life, and everyone sang along, creating a joyful, nostalgic, and unforgettable moment.

Jenny’s love of DIY added personal touches without compromising style, and included laser-cut guest names on chopsticks, handmade sleeves, heat-pressed napkins, and custom ‘blind box’ wedding collectibles. While their entire vendor team was invaluable, Jenny had special praise for Nian, whose makeup lasted more than 24 hours, and Jim Artistry, who created three hairstyles that seamlessly transformed throughout the day.
The couple learned the importance of making time for their guests. “If your priority is connecting with your guests, consider doing a pre-wedding photoshoot,” Jenny says. By handling portraits beforehand, they were free to mingle, greet, and photograph 90% of their 160 guests during cocktail hour, ensuring everyone felt seen and included.
To cap it all off, Jenny and Quoc travelled to Vietnam and Thailand, where they witnessed tens of thousands of lanterns rising into the night sky during Yi Peng. “It honestly felt like Tangled … but real!” Jenny recalls.
