“Marriage means going through the adventure of life with someone always by your side, in your corner,” say Maddie and Joel, who recently celebrated their most romantic adventure in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. After instantly falling for the lush, secluded feel of The Prideaux Estate (“we had goosebumps!”), it was a magical wedding journey for this smitten pair.

All good love stories start somewhere; tell us how you met …
On Hinge. We had our first date on a Sunday afternoon and the sparks flew from there. Our second and third dates were within a week. When you know, you really know.
Tell us about your life together …
Our life is full of love. We have a house full of animals (two cats and two dogs) who keep us on our toes. It’s also full of music, with Joel being the drummer in a band — we’re often the loudest house on the street!
Make us laugh, make us cry: who proposed to whom, and how?
When we first started dating, we would have a monthly competition for who could organise a better date than the other the month before. I was on nursing prac with a very busy schedule, but we scheduled a date for one of my few days off. Joel woke me in the morning, and we drove to the Caloundra Airfields, where he told me I was going skydiving! I was horrified (I fear heights), but instead, we flew in a helicopter to Flaxton Gardens with a pilot who was in on the surprise. Whilst getting photos with the helicopter, Joel dropped to one knee …
Why did you choose your venues?
We had goosebumps as soon as we entered the grounds of The Prideaux Estate. It’s just so romantic. We instantly fell in love, and as we discovered all the amazing features the property holds, we knew we couldn’t do it anywhere else. We chose Buderim Tavern for its stunning views over the mountains and out to the beach.
Tell us about your dress …
It was everything I had imagined: soft and elegant, and it made me feel like a princess.
What was your style aesthetic?
Sending a nod to Joel’s New Zealand heritage, we incorporated the use of Australian and New Zealand natives in the flowers. To complement that, the accent colours were rust–orange and sage.
Did you incorporate any traditions or perhaps do something a little different?
Joel arrived at The Prideaux Estate by helicopter as a special connection to the moment he proposed.
Were there any standout suppliers you’d like to mention?
The Prideaux Estate always ensured they did everything possible to make our day magical. It was as perfect as we imagined. Cakes by Simone designed our incredible wedding cake. It looked perfect and tasted even better — your tastebuds exploded when you ate it!
How will you honeymoon?
We will be enjoying a beautiful honeymoon in Bali.
Are there any pearls of wisdom for other couples?
When planning the wedding, stick to exactly what you guys want and what represents you as a couple. Do things that are important to you, not because it’s what everyone else wants you to do or expects.
What does marriage mean to you?
It means spending the rest of forever with your soulmate. It means going through the adventure of life with someone always by your side, in your corner.
What are you most looking forward to now you’re married?
Adding some human babies to join our fur babies.
