We asked the exercise expert to recommend some outdoor pursuits on the Gold Coast that can do double-time as fun pre-wedding fitness activities and she came back with some fabulous ideas…
Gather your crew early and head south to hike Murwillumbah’s Mount Warning
If you time it right you can be the first people in Australia to see the sunrise. With an average five-hour round-trip walk, it’s a fantastic workout – and view. Just be sure to come prepared with water, snacks and good shoes.
Find out what’s SUP with your best pals with a group session of stand-up paddleboarding
No need to BYO board, there’s plenty of places across the Coast to hire them. Then head to Tallebudgera Creek or Currumbin Alley for a great core workout – it’s your choice whether you soak up the serenity or take advantage of the quiet for a great gab fest.
Take in the scenery and go for a walk along the beach
Use Mermaid Beach’s Hedges Avenue mansions as motivation to just keep moving. Whether you want to walk or run, use the footpath to check out the backside of Millionaires’ Row (and possibly the Lycra-clad cyclists) and then return via the beach, gazing at the homes’ multi-million-dollar view that you’re enjoying for free.
Hit the clubs and dance, dance, dance
It’s not necessarily an exercise I’d recommend on the regular – but if you’re going out, make it count. Just remember: drink lots and lots of water.
Hit the stairs
Forget step aerobics, climb the real deal on the city’s own stairways to (beach) heaven. Whether you fancy the flight at Currumbin Alley, Elephant Rock or Burleigh Headland, every step brings you close to a better view – and bum.
