A Couture Moment: Billie Bridger in George Wu

After countless requests to see more of Billie Bridger’s unforgettable wedding gown, this special shoot pays tribute to the artistry that made her bridal look so timeless.

Featured on the cover of Queensland Brides Summer 2024 edition, Billie’s wedding to Angus captured the hearts of couples, but it was her breathtaking custom gown by designer George Wu that left a lasting impression.

Now, far from the whirlwind of the wedding day, Billie steps back into the gown at Brisbane City Hall, not as a bride, but as a muse for a couture tribute. George Wu flew her from Sydney for the shoot, creating a rare opportunity to revisit the magic with intention and creative freedom. “So often, brides don’t get the chance to have their own ‘magazine shoot moment’ on the day,” George shares. “Everything moves so quickly. Being able to position the train, guide her posture … this shoot allowed me to create something lasting for both of us.”

The gown itself is a study in structured softness and hand-appliquéd French lace, with every seam and silhouette considered, and every stitch speaking of quiet luxury. The lace was sourced from a centuries-old French mill and quickly became both a standout feature and the most technically demanding element. “We cut the skirt in a circular shape and appliquéd 25 metres of scalloped edge lace to follow the curve of the hem,” George explains. “It’s incredibly intricate, and only dressmakers will truly understand what a feat it was.”

Since its debut, the gown has sparked a wave of interest from brides drawn to its blend of old-world craftsmanship and understated elegance. The demand has been so strong that the signature lace used in Billie’s gown now bears her name: Billie Lace.

We love that this shoot is more than a celebration of a gown; for George, Billie’s gown has become part of his couture legacy, and now, with lace that carries her name and images that reflect her radiance once more, Billie’s bridal story continues to inspire.
