Meet the designer behind Bindi Irwin’s dream wedding dress

With the wedding industry closing down before our very eyes, it is a privilege to be able to share with you a bit of happiness amongst the COVID-19 mayhem. In a true testament to the beauty and strength of local Brisbane design, we could not be prouder of Anne Bertossi and Paddington Weddings as the chosen designer of Bindi Irwin’s wedding dress. And what a stunning dress it is.

Brisbane-based Anne is passionate about designing and creating stylish, modern wedding dresses for Australian and international brides; so it was little wonder that Bindi found her dream dress with such a talented designer.

Having admired her mum’s heirloom wedding dress since she was little girl, there was no doubt in Bindi’s mind that she wanted a dress which was similar in graceful design but one which she could make her own. And, as soon as she spotted the beautiful design at Paddington Weddings, Bindi instantly knew it was the P.E.R.F.E.C.T dress for her. With its flattering A-line design and dainty sunflower lace sleeve and bodice detailing, her dress was not only a beautiful tribute to her mum’s wedding dress but also incorporated memories of her late father, Steve Irwin, and their family adventures. “When we would go on projects and drives together, we’d often drive through these huge sunflower fields in the middle of nowhere, and we always stopped to take them in,” Bindi explained.

After almost a year of planning their wedding, Bindi and Chandler chose to alter their original plans to suit new COVID-19 restrictions rather than postpone their original ideas – and on 25 March 2020, the couple exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony at their home at Australia Zoo.

You can read about all the details of their wedding day in the new issue of @people magazine.

March 25th 2020 ❤️ We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend. There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now. We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding. This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe. We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos. Right now we’re encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history. Today we celebrated life and revelled in every beautiful moment we shared together in our Australia Zoo gardens. Mum helped me get ready, Robert walked me down the aisle, Chandler became my husband and together we lit a candle in Dad’s memory. We shared tears and smiles and love. Thankfully, since we all live at Australia Zoo as a family, we could be there for each other. To everyone reading this – stay safe, social distance and remember LOVE WINS!
