How did you meet?

Simon was working at a local coffee shop and he chased me down the street after I forgot to pay for my coffee….

Tell us about the proposal…

I had taken Simon out for lunch and shopping for his birthday with the intention of making the entire day all about him. Little did I know that all day he had carried around the engagement ring in his pocket waiting for the perfect moment, it never came. We went home and Simon was outside on the verandah steps. I didn’t want to go outside because it was cold but curiosity got the better of me and out I went. We were talking about how nice a day out we had and Simon turned to me and said “ Do you know what would make this day even better?” To which I replied.. “Oh! A coffee would be great!” Simon then pulled out the ring box and said, “ well yes, that and will you marry me?” I said “yes!” through a lot of tears and jumping around like a crazy woman.

Why did you choose your home in Boonah for your wedding?

Our home is our most favourite place on Earth, what better way to add to the memories than to have our wedding there?

What did you do for your hens and bucks?

I had a night out for dinner then followed by dancing at Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall. Simon went bowling.

DIY Details

I had amazing bridesmaids who helped create and donated nearly all of our decorations. Most of the flower table centrepieces I already had in our home, the timber discs were from some trees that we had felled recently, a lot of the seating and the ‘couch’ was made from hay bales covered in blankets and lace. The bar area was made up of 44 gallon drums with antique doors placed over the top and front. We made all our signs and spent an evening drinking wine and fluffing out paper pom poms… fun!

Key Styling Inspiration

Our home.

Where did you splurge and where did you save on your wedding?

I splurged on my dress. And saved on the decorating, the venue cost by having it at home, we asked friends who had an amazing old car to drive us to photo destinations rather than hiring a car and my cake which was made by my maid of honour.

What was the funniest memory of the day?

The whole day was a barrel of laughs which makes it hard, but for me it was Simon’s speech where he admitted to our guests that he was indeed bordering on being a stalker when trying to ask me out on a date… it’s been a private joke for years.

What was the most special memory from the day?

Our first dance was magical… some clever person had found the leftover confetti and while we were dancing it was thrown off the verandah over us.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

We went to Kingscliffe

Special thanks to…

Our families, for being so accepting, loving and supportive of our relationship from day one. The bridesmaids and groomsmen who stayed late into the hours of the night to help set up and then arriving well before I was out of bed to put out the final touches.

What advice would you give other brides-to-be?

Remember why you’re doing this, and all of the small stuff you are sweating on will seem to be irrelevant.
