Real Wedding: Amber and Dean

It only took a brief meeting at a mutual friend’s wedding, held at Gabbinbar Homestead, for Amber and Dean to click. So it was fitting they returned to the utterly charming Toowoomba locale to say “I do” and capture these gorgeous images. Love the surprise fireworks display!

Date: December 14 2014

The Couple: Amber Davey and Dean Le Petit

Location: Toowoomba

First Dance Song: Unforgettable – Nat “King” Cole and Natalie Cole

Budget: $25,000-$30,000

How did you meet?

At our mutual friend’s wedding. The groom was a previous housemate of Dean, and the bride, a close friend of mine were married at Gabbinbar in 2013. We only spoke for ten minutes in a group setting but things just clicked especially the topic of our mothers wanting to marry us off!

Tell us about the proposal…

We woke up early for a morning walk around Picnic Point Park in Toowoomba. Dean hid a letter inside a tin box at the top of the waterfall in park, the night before. In an attempt to show off, Dean ambitiously climbed a tree, leaping onto the ledge which led to the top of the waterfall. He jumped down exclaiming he had found something. I read the note inside and was asked the famous proposal line. Dean may have had some timing issues getting the ring out of his pocket in time.

What did you do for your hens and bucks?

For my hens, we had a pamper morning at the Gold Coast with my sisters and close girlfriends. Then we finished off the day with dancing throughout the night in Brisbane City. The boys went camping and waterskiing in northern New South Wales.

Why did you choose Gabbinbar Homestead for your wedding?

From the moment we drove up the pebbled driveway, we felt like we were in another world. We fell in love with this home away from home.

Key Styling Inspiration

The only word I said to our Wedding Planner was, “Elegant” and she did the rest. We measured every decision with this word in mind.

DIY Details

You don’t need the extra stress. Hire people with that skill and save yourself the drama. Enjoy the lead up to your special day.

Where did you splurge and where did you save on your wedding?

We decided to invest in a photo booth for our reception. We were absolutely thrilled with the interaction of our guests and the book that we received with special messages from them. It was definitely money well spent.

We saved by having our wedding at Gabbinbar Homestead. We were able to save on decorations as the gardens showcased an elegant ambiance that could not be enhanced by additional decorations.

What gifts did you give your guests?

We gifted hand written notes to our guests. Our photographers caught some of our guests reactions upon reading their note. It was a priceless moment.

What was the most special memory from the day?

As we were announced to our guests upon entering our reception in the conservatory, we were greeted by an incredible fireworks display. We were caught by surprise and looked up at the glass roof in amazement.

Any advice for other brides-to-be?

What did you do for your honeymoon?

We stayed at the Maleny Lodge Boutique Hotel.
