Couple Real Weddings

Real Wedding: Carlie and Duncan

How did you meet?

In high school. 13 years ago.

Tell us about the proposal…

We were having a beach day / picnic at Point Cartwright. It’s a spot we love to go to – and something that was quite normal for us to do, so although I knew a proposal was on the cards, it was a total surprise when he proposed.

Why did you choose Weddings at Tiffany’s for your wedding?

We originally thought we’d get married on my parents property in Mapleton, but then it all became too difficult. So my parents suggested Weddings at Tiffany’s. They used to go there when it was a restaurant years ago. We saw it and knew straight away we wanted to get married there. Everything about it is beautiful.

What did you do for your hens and bucks?

The boys had a night out in Brisbane and then went camping up Double Island Point. The girls hired a mini bus and went on a cocktail tour of Noosa.

DIY Details

We had a lolly buffet for guests instead of bonbonneires. We also decided to have a polaroid guest book, so guests could take a picture of themselves and stick it in the book with their message. Duncan made a wooden backdrop for our guests to stand in front of.

Key Styling Inspiration?

We wanted a classic elegant and romantic theme. Lots of white flowers. Nothing that would date. Nothing over the top.

What did you splurge on and what did you save on for your wedding?

We splurged on the big things – venue, flowers, photographer and videographer. We cut back on the unnecessary items.

What was the funniest moment of the day?

Our MC was just hilarious and the speeches were spot on.

What was the most special memory from the day?

Looking around at the reception, whilst everyone was having dinner, and seeing everyone, talking and laughing. Our cheeks hurt from smiling and our hearts were full.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

Bali. We had nine nights away in Seminyak and Uluwatu. We’d been there before, so knew we could just go there and not feel obliged to do touristy things. Perfect place to relax, get massages, watch the sunset with cocktails by the pool and eat out at amazing restaurants.

Special thanks to…

our families for the support they provided in planning and paying for the wedding.

What advice would you give other brides-to-be?

Keep things simple and be mindful of what the day is really about. With choosing a dress – go first with your mum and girlfriends then go back again on your own, so you’re not swayed by anyone else’s opinions. With getting things organised – Write a list at the start of your engagement and break down jobs to do each month. Get as much organised early as you can, because the last week can get hectic with family arriving.
