Real Wedding: Kaitlyn and Callum

We didn’t know how much we loved gold dinosaurs as table decor until we we spotted this personality-filled wedding. The colourful, festive, and utterly delightful nuptials of high school sweethearts Kaitlyn Bernhardt and Callum Rohrlach grabbed us instantly and didn’t let go. So much to adore. And from the bride’s arrival via flower-adorned green kombi to the cool and quirky detailing and homemade photo booth at the fun-filled reception, it looks like a very, very good time was had by all. And to top it off, the bride tells us their wedding planner Rachael donated those amazing blooms to a nursing home the day after. Awww…

How did you meet?
We are high school sweethearts!

Tell us about the proposal…
After spending the morning exploring Central Park, Callum had organised a surprise private tour walking around Soho and Greenwich Village in New York visiting boutique chocolate shops. At the very last stop in a quaint chocolate café called Marie Belle, Callum got down on one knee. Of course after all that chocolate I said YES!

What did you do for your hens and bucks?
The girls and I hired an apartment in Surfers Paradise for two nights. On the Saturday we played some hilarious games, followed by dinner and Karaoke at one of our favourite Chinese restaurants before heading in to the pubs.

The boys all went to skirmish in Brisbane (Callum adorned in a pink tutu and hot pink shirt covered in bells much to his delight), followed by a night out in Brisbane.

Why did you choose Old Church at Mount Tamborine for your wedding?
As soon as we got out of the car and saw the venue we fell in love.  It was exactly what we wanted – quirky, romantic, vintage and the most amazing gardens. Of course it was the first venue we saw, so nothing else compared after that.

Key Styling Inspiration?
Fun, party-like and lots of colours and flowers.

DIY Details
Our friend built us the most amazing photo booth, so we just bought some props to finish it off that we stored in a vintage suitcase.  We also bought a stack of blankets tied with a ribbon for guests to keep warm.  The tables had dinosaurs and farm animals spray painted gold that were definitely a talking point with guests. In the bathrooms we had little baskets filled with goodies so that the guests could freshen up.

Where did you splurge & where did you save?
We splurged on flowers, food and stationery to really try and personalise our day. Our friend built us an amazing photo booth that saved us a stack of money!

What gifts did you give your guests?
We gave all our guests little jars of candied lollies.

What did you do for your honeymoon?
We honeymooned in Hawaii and loved every minute of it!  We spent four nights in Maui and six nights in Waikiki. Food, sun, surf and shopping!

Funniest Moment
Definitely the best man’s speech.  His opening line was “off course Katie and Cal picked the only one of their friends who did not finish high school to do a speech!”

Special Memory
It sounds cliché but the whole day was just so special to us that it is hard to pick one thing!  We did love seeing everyone out on the dance floor, especially when everyone joined us to jump around to Skrilex’s Bangarang.

Special thanks to…
Special thanks to our wedding planner Rachael – she seriously made the whole day such a breeze, so much so we now spend all our time dreaming up ways to get married again!  She even took all our leftover flowers and donated them to a nursing home the next day!

Do you have any advice for other brides-to-be?
Three things standout!  Try and stay somewhere the night after the wedding. This is a great opportunity to debrief the day with each other and share all your favourite moments from the day. We did this and it was just the most perfect way finish our perfect day. The second thing would be to get a videographer.  We are so, so in love with our wedding video and they managed to capture things that you can’t see/hear in photos. The third thing would be to make the wedding all about the two of you, and have fun! Try to personalise it as much as you can – they are the things you will remember.
